A couple friends of mine who were waiting to see if they could marry this year are going to be disappointed as hell.

God, that's sad, and...I'm all wanting to wax passionate about 'if you prick us do we not bleed', but I'd just upset myself.

it is sad, and I am upset, but not at the court. they are exactly right that as the law stands today, the legislature has the power to regulate what is and is not a legal civil marriage in that state. whether or not doing so violates the gay couple's constitutional rights is a question for SCOTUS.

although I do think they could have given more weight to the Priviliges & Immunities argument, which I thought was a good one.
