I am so sorry that you and your family are going through this. Have you considered hospice care to make sure she is as comfortable as possible during this time?

Thanks... She's in a really nice nursing home. And honestly, she's been mostly catatonic since her stroke 6 years ago... She could go at any time... or years from now. We haven't been given a warning of "THIS IS THE END"... it's more just a feeling my sister and I have had. (My mom probably wouldn't be willing to go with hospice anyway, because then she would have to accept the inevitable and she's not good at that... Proof positive of this fact: My grandfather is currently in a little wooden box (as part of the SHRINE) on the hope chest/coffee table in her living room... and yeah, that's as sick and Oedipal as you might imagine.)

oh honey... wow. *hugs*
this was beautifully written and you know what, I think probably that your grandmother has already been gone for a while now. Her poor tired old bod just hasn't caught up with her yet. Somewhere she's happy and healthy and giggling over parts of your post and the beautiful way you saw her. See her that way still -- and know that she'll live on forever in your memories, in your writing about her and in your heart. :)
Okay, that came out really trite. But I hope you know what I mean. I really believe it, too.
xoxo

Thanks bunches! I really like the idea of her NOT being trapped in her body in a lonely nursing home.
