I'm reapplying in the fall to other Cali grad programs. It kind of irritates me that the only reason why I didn't get into Duke was because I had a horrible round of interviews. If I can get invited for interviews at Duke, I can get invited elsewhere. Not that I wanted to go to Duke, but prestige-wise...
But, one thing to consider is, maybe you were too qualified for a lot of the other schools. They see that you've done math, math, and more math-- what more can they teach you? And do they want someone whose background consists only of math? This isn't coming from me, btw, this is something that my dad and I had talked about, when he was talking about how they admitted PhD students into the chemistry department.
It's possible, but I was applying to programs that a lot of my professors got their Ph.D.s from, so I have been trusting that they know what the program looks at. They all said that the programs won't really care all that much about well-roundedness, and instead in your knowledge of math and potential and a math researcher.
I just don't see how I could be TOO qualified for Princeton...
So you're going to apply to UCLA then? (Berkeley also I suppose....fuckin' Berkeley)
