Happy Thanksgiving!
I hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving, filled with friends, family, and most importantly, GOOD FOOD! I had a lovely orphan Thanksgiving in Missouri with some of my fellow grad students. Not as easy as I remember...
Tonight was my department's annual picnic. My advisor decided to bring a bubbles and a big bucket of sidewalk chalk "for the kids." As soon as I saw it, the wheels in my head started turning. Today marks the fourth anniversary of Hurricane Katrina. This day always makes me sad, frustrated, and angry as I recall seeing my city under water, my people in peril, and the complete complacency of the federal response in the aftermath. The semester started this week, and although I wasn't ready to be thrown back into the chaos of school again (especially after the busy summer I've had!), the first week has gone remarkably well. Why does it cost $10 to go to a matinée movie now? That's why I had to make it worth my while by sneaking into a second movie. It worked out well, too, because I saw a preview for HBP! I can't wait!!

I did it!!!
I passed my comprehensive exams today, and I am now officially ABD!!! Writing the exam last week was absolutely brutal. Three hours seems like more than enough time to answer a single question, but it flies by unbelievably fast. I felt disappointed with every single one of my answers. But my committee loved them and thought I did a great job ( Read more... ) -
Back to the real world
I just got back from spending three glorious days in New Orleans for Mardi Gras. I had sooooo much fun!!! I got to see my family and my best friend and go to EVERY parade between Sunday and Tuesday! I even managed to catch FOUR coconuts and a spear at Zulu!!! I ate myself sick at my favorite seafood restaurants--I couldn't even finish my BBQ ( Read more... ) -
Why does this not surprise me?
It's 11:30 on Sunday morning and I haven't even begun to do my reading for my seminar tomorrow. I also have not yet visited the library to check out the 100 books (not exaggerating!... Well, maybe a little...) I need to study for my Comps. My Comprehensive exams are in 2 weeks, and I haven't been studying as I should. And I haven't even written ( Read more... )
