Certainly not the producers of the new Star Trek movie which I had the guilty pleasure of watching yesterday ( Read more... )

I know, I don't know if this new movie is the new canon, or if the old ones are "canon" or if they're just separate universes and I have to accept that. I kind of like the universe in which Spock gets busy with Uhura, though...

LOL I'm not so sure about this all-too-human Spock, but then the form of the prequel requires humanisation of iconic characters on all fronts. And this Uhura is the only significant female on the crew and yes, rather hot. ;-)
This one has to be a seperate universe, at least for me, because it just won't work with all the other Trek stuff when you have no planet Vulcan and Romulans that look like Nazi punks. ;-)

As a more character-centric fan of Star Trek who couldn't care less about canon and time-lines and whatnot (I know, a rare variaty) I really enjoyed it. I couldn't help but love Spock/Uhura, it made a weird sort of sense to me. And I reconciled with the whole reboot concept (which, admittedly, was farfetched) thinking: "It's not a reboot. It's an *alternative reality*." So canon Kirk&Co. and all the other series are still happening, BUT there is now another future in which Spock and Uhura have a bunch of slightly greenish café-au-lait kiddies and Kirk, having screwed all the Orion girls he could find while still in the academy, can concentrate on being a captain. All good.

LOL I can totally see your point. Those kids would be scary but cute.
Btw how can Orion girls be at the academy and still be, well, Orion girls? Oh well. Maybe that's just part of this timeline.

PS.: How nice to use that icon together. :-)

Maybe she's an - adopted Orion girl? Um, yes, that didn't make all that much sense to me either. I was just so relieved that Kirk wasn't screwing Uhura that I didn't care.

Hehe, yes, mirror icon use! <3

Alternate universe all around. Orion girls get to be liberated and be Starfleet's coolest (hottest?) cadets. Or it's a plot. Or she was actually Uhura's, whatsthatword, commodity, and Kirk didn't get it.
Oh, I want to watch some more Trek now!

I think it was quite clear this being an alternative timeline, perhaps designed to keep the original ST fans happy because the 'original universe' is still happening if that makes sense? Anyway, I thought this film was absolutely fantastic! I loved every minute and all the characters were great. My favourite has always been Bones so I was pleased that he was his usual self. What's your googlemail again? ;) I wanna add you to a program I have :) I've missed you! :) xx
