[At first she doesn't notice, but then she senses someone next to her and immediately draws away with a gasp, breathing hard.]

Ai? How did...

What did they do to you?

[She slumps over again.]

I saw Brendan...he got older and older, and then the Northmen, they...

[She can't bring herself to finish that part. What those Vikings did was too awful to even imagine.]

[Her head snaps up immediately, like a startled animal. Her eyes dart around before spotting Pamela.]

Pamela...

[Sniffs and bows her head.]

No. I got a bad present.

[Runs right on up to Aisling's room, hitting the door; this time, Wriggle's escaped whatever spell Mayfield has cast, and is thus healthy and whole.

And worried, so very worried.]

Aisling? A-Aisling!

[The door isn't locked, and Wriggle can still hear Aisling yelling.]

Brendan! Brendan, get away...!

[scrambles to turn the knob and enter]

Hey- Aisling! There's....what's going on?

[Unfortunately, Aisling doesn't seem to notice Wriggle at all. Whatever she's seeing obviously seems very real to her; she's staring straight ahead and suddenly, she screams again. She just saw her friend get murdered by Vikings.]

[Despite her dislike of the cold, it was hard to stretch her wings in the confines of the house. So out Utsuho went; just for a little bit, she told herself. She had heard bad things happened to others and didn't want to stay out very long, but had no pressing worry just yet.

...seeing a person, alone, anguished, and slumped over in the park still got her attention, though.

The raven circles down and lands near Aisling, cawing softly. Why you sad, girl?]

[Hearing something land near her makes Aisling look up to see who it is. At this point, she feels a little more at ease with an animal around than a human. At least ravens won't destroy her forest and kill her only friend at home.]

[But then she notices that there's a raven there...and she gets a sudden mental image of the sky filled with ravens, shrieking hoarsely as the Northmen follow after them, their own growling voices adding to the din. She draws back, startled, and her eyes dart around to look for any more ravens.]

Unyu?

[Utsuho doesn't know why the girl flinched back; she's not a mind-reader like her master, even though such an ability might be useful about now. But the raven follows Aisling's gaze anyway--sees nothing, and is rather confused at the whole thing. She clacks her beak.]

What are you looking for?

[ I sat down next to her and, awkwardly, put an arm around her -- then jerked away and wound up sitting awkwardly half a foot to the side, not touching at all. I kept forgetting that the curse of Achilles had come back wrong. ]

You wanna talk about it?

[There's a long pause before Aisling finally speaks.]

I didn't get a good present. At all.
