I, like the commenters above me, have no experience in this but, like the commenters above me, think it has lots of potential for you two and is a house you can grow into. And if Rob and I are in the area, it would be fun to help repaint/re-tile/mend floors/closets/etc together. Rob's pretty good at it, too.
er...obvious there is no need for mending (inside, anyway, other than the major foundation/roof issues that would require professionals!), but we'd still be happy to help paint and fix closet rods :P I just meant general changes that you want to do that we can help with.
Yeah, the guy who redid it painted it with neutral colours, for obvious reasons. Neutral painted places are much easier to sell, and besides, taupe is "in" right now, so everything gets painted taupe. We can live with the taupe for a while, since it IS neutral and at least it's nice and newly painted. Once we could afford to paint I'd probably redo things in yellow. And I've always wanted to paint a future baby's room sky blue with white fluffy clouds all over it, with an Ikea light fixture like this: http://www.ikea.com/ca/en/catalog/products/10010824 or this: http://www.ikea.com/ca/en/catalog/products/50072886
Although this place doesn't have ceiling fixtures upstairs...
I like it! I`m not really familiar with housing in Victoria, but that seems like a lot of room for the price, and the little private yard is great. So is the pet policy

Assvice appreciated. Thing is - if we want to cut down on that commute, we're going to have to pay 250,000 for a 900 ft condo instead. Is that worth it?
re: the roof thing. They are townhouses, but in Vancouver a townhouse just means a condo with private entry. Hence, like condos, the complex falls under the management of a strata council. I would own my unit, but since I share walls and gardens with other people, everyone pays a maintenance fee to keep up these common properties - to pay the gardener, fix fences and so on. Otherwise, if my roof started to rot, but I refused to fix it, everyone in my building could lose their home
