I'm working on a new generic cover letter for craigslist while I try to find a decent job, and came up with this so far.I saw your posting on craigslist and am extremely interested in speaking with you further regarding this position. It sounds like a good cover letter to me, but I had the best results on craigslist by writing a simple two-sentance-something that directly addressed their problem. After that, I wrote an informal boilerplate paragraph with links to my reel and resume and hit send...

Well it's mostly just to fill up space. Half the time they don't read it, and then when I get to the interview, they look at the first page of the resume, and don't bother with the second. Problem being that the skills section is really long, so the only thing that shows up is "Freelance 2000-current" and immediately ask me "So you've only been freelancing for the last 6 years, huh?". And when you're on an interview, you want to be really nice to everyone, just make them comfortable with you as a person. And it's kinda hard to do that when you're making them feel like an ass by pointing out that they just went keyword hunting through the skills section. So I'm just trying to pick up points whereever I can.

The thing is however, that I'm going for a job, and not gigs. When I'm going for gigs, then yeah, I do the same thing.
