[Yamame's end of the phone is very quiet for a long moment before she finally decides to speak quietly.]

Um...at least she got to go home? That's what they say, is that the people who leave get to go home.

I'm sorry, Komeiji-san. D-do you want me to come and keep you company?

...No. No, I don't. I want to be alone right now.

O-okay.

You can call Yamame if you need her, okay? I love Komeiji-san and I will be helpful if she needs me.

[She snaps at Yamame, irritation in her voice running high.]

And just how do you think you could be even remotely helpful in this situation, Kurodani? You can't bring my sister back. You can't do anything to help.

I appreciate your concern, but don't offer to do things you can't.

[Even though Okuu wasn't terribly bright, she understood this. Koishi hadn't answered when she crowed at her--at least not right. Okuu wasn't a dog--!

--and her Third Eye was gone again. But this time she had that same...air about her just like the drones of the town; both people and animals. Utsuho didn't like it; so off she had gone to her master.

Her reason was complex, as far as Okuu's reasons tended to go. Pets were sensitive to their owner's sadness, after all.

The hell raven is perched quietly on Satori's free shoulder, feathers fluffed out and her head held low.]

[Instinctively, Satori reaches up and strokes the back of Okuu's neck.]

It looks like it's just you and me now, Okuu.

Promise me...you'll stay with me as long as you can. Please.

[It's an unfair promise, and she knows this.]

[Utsuho sees the hand coming up--and squeezes her eyes shut before any sudden traumas begin. Being cr--no. Not the time to think about this.]

I promise, master.

[Okuu, however, doesn't.]

...does master want a hug?

[Satori sees the hesitation in Okuu's mind, but now is not the time to ask about it. She'll find a better time.

When neither of them have to deal with this.]

...Yes. I think I'd like that very much.

She was quite the adorable one, you know. Even did her best to become friends with someone like myself. Isn't that just adorably noble?

And now what, Satori? Are you feeling sad? Or are you moreso feeling jealous that she gets to go home and leave you here all alone? Now I suppose you can go on not having to worry about your dear sister, and you can continue to pursue those things you love doing most.

I'm not alone. Until Okuu goes home, I won't be.

...As for my feelings, I have no reason to be jealous. I'm not Mizuhashi. I'm happy she's gone. I'm happy she's gone. Now she doesn't have to suffer through this place anymore.

And I'm curious as to what you're talking about when you talk about the "things I love doing most." Just what sort of rumors about me go around on the surface?

convallariaceae April 29 2011, 22:26:13 UTC
Oh, don't get the wrong idea, child. Nobody speaks of you on the surface as far as I know. It's almost as if you don't even exist to those of us who live in the sunlight.

I only refer to the things I recall seeing and hearing you do while in this quaint little location. As I recall, you truly are just as bad as the bridge-dweller.

I'm so glad to hear that you are not alone, though. It would be such a shame if there were no one to vent your frustrations on.

Okuu is my pet. She's my family. She's not something I vent my frustrations on. That's not fair to her.

To which events are you referring? I'll admit I've done some less than savory things while here, but you know very little about those of us who live underground if you think the hashihime and I are anything alike.
