Summary: It was raining.

It was raining.

Not raining, really, but pouring, sheets of water pounding the ground so hard that Naruto, crouching, could almost see the raindrops bouncing back up. He sighed, squinting a little against the cold air.

It was raining, and he didn't have an umbrella.

Normally, that wouldn't matter much, but the heating had recently been cut off at his apartment, and with the surprisingly cold and moisture-laden air, he doubted his clothes would dry by tomorrow morning. They were all he had left (it's hard to remember to do laundry when there's no one there to remind you) and he wasn't looking forward to damp clothing at five in the morning tomorrow.

The rest of Team Seven had left already, Kakashi-sensei magically producing an umbrella from the Academy's staff room, Sakura greeted by her umbrella bearing mother, and a pissed-off Sasuke being chased by rabid fangirls, all vying to cover him with their umbrella. He'd half-hoped that Iruka-sensei would appear and offer to walk him home, but Naruto was sure he'd gone home earlier, so the chance of that was decreasing rapidly with each passing minute.

He waited a while longer, listening to the rain beating on the Academy's outdoor covering, preparing to straighten up and run home as quickly as he could, and damn the consequences. He closed his eyes (rain always seemed to make him lethargic) and didn't bother to open them until the footsteps he'd being hearing stopped.

Right in front of him.

It was raining, and he didn't have an umbrella, but Sasuke did.

Sasuke'd been looking at him, but when he cracked open his eyes and tilted his face up, Sasuke's head jerked away, staring determinedly in the other direction. So Naruto returned the favour, considering him for a few moments, until he was sure he could see a faint redness across Sasuke's cheeks. It was just the cold, of course; Naruto couldn't think what else it could be from.

The rain hit the umbrella hard.

Soon, Naruto asked, "What are you doing here?" and there wasn't as much malice in his tone as there might have been.

"It's raining." Sasuke shot him a look, and then went back to looking very hard at something in the opposite direction. He took a deep breath and continued, very fast. "If you get wet, your clothes won't be dry by tomorrow morning since you were too dumb to pay your heating bill, and I know you're an idiot who never does his laundry and it's too late now, all the laudromats are closed. And if you have to wear damp clothing all tomorrow, you'll get sick--you're just that weak--and if you get sick, you'll have to take time off and the team won't do anything for days. I can't afford any more setbacks, so just get under the damn umbrella and I'll walk you home."

Naruto blinked a few times (that was the most he'd ever heard his teammate say in one breath) and stood up. "Ok," he said.

They didn't speak any more, and while Naruto's feet got soaked in his open-toed sandals, he was all too aware of the heat against his right side.

Sasuke looked at him once, and Naruto grinned back, humming contentedly under his breath.

It was raining, and he didn't have an umbrella, but Sasuke did, and it was big enough for the both of them.

.:i'm home at last and i'm soaking through and through, then you handed me a towel and all I see is you:.

Disclaimer: Not mine. Excuse me while I break down.
