"Smells like boy"

Oct 08, 2007 13:08

Is "boy" a distinctive scent? Is it good or bad? Under what circumstances? Is it specific to particular boys or a general scent?

Is there a "girl" scent?

Heh. Everybody has multiple scents - a clean scent, a sweaty scent, a not-just-washed-but-not-stinky scent, etc. I am particularly sensitive to peoples' scents and can usually tell who a shirt belongs to, not just boy or girl, by smelling it. Also, if I know someone well, I can usually tell when they are sick or upset by the way they smell. and a boy has to smell "right" or I am not interested in even a first date. :P

Eithni, do I contact you for SCA demos/presentations? adbernstein@wisc.edu wants to have someone from the SCA come to Chadborne Dorm.

I don't think "boy" has a general scent.

I think certain boys have a certain scent, as someone else said, a combo of many things including body chemistry. Some, sadly, just smell of B.O. :/ You have very little scent, which sorta thew me. :P

Sometimes they're based around a certain predominant scent tho, like a deodorant or cologne or fabric softener. Personally tho, I hate it when someone wears so much scented stuff that that's ALL you can smell, it's like that's all that's there is a sorta scent-facade. Yech.

Also, scent-associated memories can f*ck with your head, there's a certain deodorant around that just drags my mood down whenever I smell it cuz of the memories associated...

I heard that in some cultures wearing perfume or cologne is actually considered offensive and a form of deception.

It's kind of odd that you say I have very little scent, as I've been told that I smell very strong, at least at times.

Scent does vary by hormones, that I know for sure...women especially. It also varies by blood sugar levels and activity level and a zillion other things...

Or it could just be that my nose isn't working as well as it felt like it was, it IS allergy season. I didn't think it was a problem, but... *shrug*

Yes, yes, many other things undoubtedly affect it.

And if you're allergic to me, that would help to keep you from smelling me. Or I might not have been very smelly those days, or you like or don't mind my scent. There are a few people like that.

I like a bit of everything that's so far been said. I do think there is a boy smell, it's just something there is. I also think that people associate past smells with the entire gender. A lot of guys I have been close to have used axe (or lynx the british version) and I generally assosiate that with 'boy.'
It's funny though because I used to use axe body wash and it never smelled the same on me as it did on my boyfriend, even when were were doing our laundry together and using the same shampoo..and incidentally working for the same company and living in the same place. I would have thought that we would have smelled more alike, but no, we still had completely different smells.
Smell has the strongest associations and at times I love it. If I smell axe I go batty, just like in the commercials!
