it's funny, there have been a few things i read recently about people crying for someone they don't even know, or just kind of mourning the world in general, and not knowing what the hell was wrong with them for being sad like that. and your mom is right, there's nothing wrong with that. you're not turning it into an OH I AM SUCH A KIND RIGHTEOUS PERSON. you're acknowledging something that's sad and unfair. it just means you have a heart, and that's good.

The common truth is that grief or commisseration is my natural reaction to almost all death. It's only odd for me becuause everyone ELSE seems to think that reaction is unprecedented. Empathy is the norm.

My guilt comes from what you touched on in your Ergs post: there are more important things to worry about.
