A wonderful quote

"To be GOVERNED is to be watched, inspected, spied upon, directed,
law-driven, numbered, regulated, enrolled, indoctrinated, preached
at, controlled, checked, estimated, valued, censured, commanded,
by creatures who have neither the right nor the wisdom nor the
virtue to do so. To be GOVERNED is to be at every operation, at every
transaction noted, ( Read more... )

Good example of what happens when hippies get out of control, and the government has it's hands tied by TOO much democracy. Ah, well, you reap what you sow.

Democracy...a good system for beginners but ultimately doomed to fail, because the masses will always vote themselves "bread and circuses".

It's too bad you see things that way. What the Danish government is trying to do to the residents of Christiania is to reintroduce everything Proudhon talks about in the quote I posted back into their situation. I admire them for resisting the encroachment of government on their activities.

I would also say that this is an example of democracy (in the form of the Danish government, which is after all composed largely of elected officials) not allowing people to freely associate with each other and live as they please without stealing from or committing violence against others. Internally, however the way they run things is an admirable form of democracy.

I'd agree that democracy may be regarded as a beginners system. It's too bad that we aren't advanced to the point where an anarchist society could work beyond the level of something like Christiania.
