The trick is to slide the blade along the bottle rather than to try to cut it. That way you'll hit the lip of the bottle and that will cause the internal preasure to push it clean off. Ooh. I will have to try this with my utility katana. I have a bottle of moscato d'asti I've been saving, and drinking can surely only be improved by playing with sharp bits of metal.
Just remember not to use the edge. I would also probably recomend a heavier blade than a katana, to get more weight in the "swing". Just be careful and remember that I take no responsibility for nicked swords, cut-off fingers or pets get hit by the cork. ;) Good luck!
