FIRST PLACE AT fe_contest! YEAHHHHH!

Big thanks to everyone who voted for me, and congrats to the other entrants too. I didn't think King of Red Dunes would take first, but I'm definitely thankful it did. :D

This might go to prove my personal idea that the things that come easiest also turn out the best--I did some work on it in terms of editing and adding ( Read more... )

Grats :D

I agree that stuff that comes easily is usually the stuff that turns out better overall. Not sure why that is, but I'm certainly not going to complain. I just love it when something practically writes itself!

Imo, we edit more when we sense that the piece needs it. Whether it can be edited to satisfaction is another matter. On the other hand, if it comes out well, it comes out well, and that is assured.

Yeah, getting into an endless cycle of editing and re-editing (including changing stuff and then changing it back.) is usually detrimental to the flow of a story. Sometimes it's worth it to take any small, lingering doubts and just chuck em out XD

Definitely.

I've found that if I have significant doubts about a scene, I copy the file* and delete the chunks I'm uncertain of.

* Because I'm nervous, and if I didn't, I would never get around to deleting it. Sometimes the verbage comes in handy elsewhere, anyway.

Congrats :D

And yeah, I've found that myself. My favorite pieces are the ones that just happened. I love that.

Congrats!

My favorite pieces are the ones that tend to write themselves too, more or less. Mostly because I am a lazy fuck who is too lazy to really invest any amount of time or energy into these kind of things. Especially because I tend to write out of order a lot, so when things tend to just... fit together, so to speak, it's really gratifying.
