Oh, and an answer to your last question: Because most people, when fed shiny vast amounts of glittering shit, will suck it up with glee on their faces no matter what, as long as it bares a shred of resemblance to the original. They don't care, so long as they can say HEY IT WAS MADE INTO A MOVIE, HOORAY!
i dunno if it was a good decision to do that. i mean this guy literally got off on that one reporter just saying he sold out. one hater amongst dozens of sheep is just going to boost his ego.
Friends of mine said that people who dislike Shyamalan probably wanted to have fun and didn't want to go into the panel to reduce their RAEG-quota for the day. Which totally makes sense, since as far as I'm concerned, if I had the choice, I wouldn't have gone. Being in the same room as Shyamalan when the guy is talking about how awesome he is would send me into RAEG MODE quicker than you can say "I believe that you believe in my beliefs".
Sad, though. I kind of wanted a riot. My friend who actually went to NYCC said all the Avatar fans he met at the con were very eager at the thought of throwing shit at Shyamalan (one Sokka cosplayer wanted to throw his boomerang).
