Is it just me, or does anyone else kinda want to see World Trade Center? I realize it may or may not be a good film, I realize that there are many mixed emotions and reactions from people. But I kinda feel this pull to go see it and try to sort out my own response to it...and in a weird way, I'm afraid I won't feel anything...I'm tired of not ( Read more... )

It's too early. We still can't make fun of AIDS. What did South Park say, 20-some years? :P

I think too early really depends on the incividual...some people have to deal with things quickly to be able to continue and not go back, others need the time and distance to be able to go back and deal with things...us people sure are complicated creatures, that's for sure...

Personally, I know this sounds crass, but I could care less. 9/11 didn't affect me personally, but it affected others, and now Hollywood is trying to cash in on this event (like they have with others), and this isn't the first... what was that other movie, United 93 or something? Anyhow, I think it's a little insensitive to be making money off a disaster that's only five years old now. Some people still have open wounds about that, but whatever. To each, their own, you're right.

No more time off for me, at least for a while. Whose genius idea was it to make people get up at 5 am anyway?

I have "ying and yang" feelings; I have been in a play and have directed a play, both directly concerning 9/11. And the audiences' reactions were supportive, positive, and cathartic. But every time I see a movie preview for something having to do with 9/11, I get mixed feelings. Now especially that it's turned so political, there are a lot of gray areas.

But after reading about it in Newsweek, it sounds like Oliver Stone did an amazing, respectful job of portraying true stories of courage. I feel that in a way, I should go, to pay tribue to these heroes that it seems like most of the world has already forgotten, now that we're focussed on the war(s), etc.

It's hard for me; I had close friends lose their lives that day, but I think it's so important that people don't forget. And it scares me that maybe we have. If a film can do a genuine job, having us relate on a human, loving level, not a political level, then I think it would be a good risk to try and go see it.
