Third Years - Ravenclaw/Hufflepuff: Tuesday 3 PMagkilpatrickMay 22 2007, 20:13:48 UTC
Kilpatrick was once more perched on the fence railing of one of the Niffler pen, keeping one eye on the fluffy, black creatures and the other watching for approaching third years. As she waited, intermittently tossed pieces of shiny metal or glittery bits of junk into the pen. She smiled fondly at the animals as they pounced on the offered trinkets, then scurried to the opposite corner to deposit their treasures in a pile or burrow in their holes and enlarge their 'treasuries

Darcy grinned back at Professor Kilpatrick, her slight hestiancy not obvious at all. She couldn't help it; much as she LIKED the Head of Gryffindor, Darcy had never before met a grown woman who was really anything like Killy. She was taking some getting used to, or something equally embarassing that Darcy pretended wasn't true.
Her eyes lit up even further at the description of the day's lesson - so much fun! She dropped her books and grabbed the top rail of the fence to boost herself over, along with a few of the other enthusiastic students. Once inside, however, she merely blinked and looked around, unsure. Well....it couldn't hurt to ask, at least.
"Excuse me, Professor!" she called out, and dodged a hurried Ravenclaw. "If YOU were going to pick a Niffler to run an obstacle course," Darcy was assuming a very casual tone, now, "what sorts of qualities would you look for in said Niffler?"

Kilpatrick watched as the students launched themselves into the pen, laughing all the while. It was good to see such enthusiasm, at least. Though she suspected several of them were spurred on by the offered reward was motivation enough

Fifth Years - Mon 8 AM & Wed 1 PM (Combined Classes)agkilpatrickMay 22 2007, 20:32:31 UTC
Kilpatrick waited for her fifth years to appear in front of the pens yet again. "Today, we'll be continuin' on with the knarls from last week, aye," Kilpatrick said as she lounged against the fence post between pens three and four, surveying her fifth year students as they settled around her. "I expec' ye'll pay attention, as ye'll be turnin' in a scroll tomorrow on them. Ten inches, aye."
She nodded to the class and stood up, "Get to work. I'm here if ye've any questions." She opened the gate to the pen and ushered the students inside, "Jus' one knarl to a pair is all ye'll need. An' don' forget the milk tins," she nodded to them, lined up beside the gate. She was interested to see how her fifth years dealt with these... curious little hedgehogs.

A scuffle occurred when Kilpatrick announced that they had, oh Merlin, ten inches due. Felix knelt on the ground and rifled through his books so that he could jot down the information on his planner. The planner, which was enchanted to be too snide for its own good, responded to the information with a footnote: 'If you can manage it after your Charms, Potions and Transfiguration homework, I applaud you.' Felix shut the book moodily and stood.
"Listen," he told his partner in a matter-of-fact tone, picking up a milk tin on his way inside the pen, "it'd be best with gloves, wouldn't it, because whether its a knarl or a hedgehog, it's still got spines." He glanced back at Kilpatrick as he studied the milk tin in his hands.
"Professor," he said with a tinge of doubt, "you don't mean that we should just... well, that we should just offer them the milk, should we?"

Aiiyayaiii. "Ten inches? YOU'RE A-KILLING ME PROFESSOR!" Kaleb wailed dramatically. Actually, he didn't quite mind. He liked CoMC. It was fun! And this gave him another reason to procrastinate on other subjects...such as transfiguration.
Kaleb followed Felix into the pen, thwaping him on the back of his head with his gloves on the way in. "One step ahead of you, mate!" He teased before stowing his gloves in a pocket for later use. He slowed his bounding steps as he got closer to the knarls, he didn't want to scare any body now, did he?
"Com'on, Felix!" He called over his shoulder as his friend turned to back to Kilpatrick. He sat slowly, getting comfortable on the dirt. He brought out his gloves, but hesitated before putting them on. He'd play it by ear, Kaleb decided, and held out a bare hand to the nearest knarl. "'ey there, little feller."
Sixth Years - Fri 1 PM/3 PM (Combined Classes)agkilpatrickMay 22 2007, 20:41:00 UTC
Kilpatrick was once more seated on the fence of the Malaclaw pen while she awaited her sixth year students' arrival. Last week, they'd only covered the details of what the creatures were, but this week, they'd be learning how to actually care for the strange lobster-like creatures.
"Afternoon, you lot. Pull out yuir books now. Ye'll be needin' 'em today," she paused while she waited for the students to shift through their bags and find their texts. When they were all settled once more, she continued, "Today, ye'll be goin' in and tryin' yuir hand at takin' care o' the Malaclaws, aye. Page 192 ought to be mighty helpful," she gave a wink as she gave them the clue. "One Malaclaw to a pair. An' be careful, unless yuir lookin' to be unlucky for the Hogsmeade trip," she raised an eyebrow then ushered them into the pen, holding the gate open wide enough for them to file inside.

Phillip was already leaning against the fence near Kilpatrick when the rest of his classmates started to arrive. The Malaclaws were rather interesting creatures, really. He looked up when the professor began to speak and grimaced slightly. Books? He hoped that didn't mean they'd just be reading all day.
However, as she continued, he felt marginally better and pulled out his textbook, opening it to the indicated page. He glanced around, wondering who he'd get as a partner today. He made his way into the pen with the rest of the class, then looked down at the page again, careful to stay clear of the wandering creatures until he had a proper partner and a plan.
Seventh Years - Mon 3 PM & Fri 8 AM (Combined Classes)agkilpatrickMay 22 2007, 20:49:20 UTC
The seventh years were once more meeting in the lecture clearing just in front of the pens, however, in front of the various logs and stones that served as seats, there was a long, high slab of smooth rock, something like an altar, or a table. On top of it, there lay several objects: several vials of different potions ingredients (powders and fluids), as well as some large hides, a few horns and even some tails.
Kilpatrick was a bit disappointed that she couldn't have any live Erumpents or Graphorns for her seventh years to study, but they were simply too large and too difficult to handle. She and Roald alone simply couldn't be expected to keep such animals safely under control on school grounds. So instead, she had collected as many of the different kinds of products that came from both creatures and had them laid out for her students to study.
"Today, ye've got a job to do, aye!" she brandished a hand to indicate the various objects on the table, "Yuir job is to figure out which o' these comes from which creature: Erumpent or

"Er, sorry there, mate," Vaughan apologized, though he wasn't sure Jacob had actually HEARD him. Resisting the urge to attempt to clean up the mess just to properly distract the Ravenclaw, Vaughan instead stood on tiptoe to get a closer look at what the other boy was writing.
"Here, how did you know that horn came from that one?" he asked, somewhat afraid to mispronounce Erumpent, especially as he was fairly certain Kilpatrick had just said it herself. "OY! Professor! Tell us what the thing with the horns is again? The difference, I mean?" he did his best to look pleading and cute without being obnoxious. "And have I mentioned lately how much we missed you?"

"Oi, stop flirtin'," Sean teased Vaughan and Jacob happily. Or was he teasing? WAS HE?! Helplessly, he looked over the different junk on the table and then stood beside Vaughan to look at what Jacob was writing too.
Then he looked back at the table. He wondered if they were allowed to poke. In case they were, he went and poked the horn that Vaughan was talking about. Poking did not help much, alas. He looked straight at Kilpatrick, interested in her answer to Vaughan's question.
"We sure did!" he added with a grin, and then found himself all red-faced in a rather sudden manner. DAMN IT GRADY. Bringing up professors wearing cute costumes on Halloween, and now all he could think about was Killy who was pretty and "Fleeeeeeeh guuurrrrrgh," he muttered to properly express his dismay at such thoughts.
Distractedly, he began searching about in his pockets for a bit of parchment to write junk down on.
