I read that there have actually been a couple of funerals where the decedent had requested (or "pre-requested" I guess) that Queen's "Another One Bites the Dust" be played, and in one case a person who was being cremated requested it be played as his casket was rolled into the retort.

And a DBotW on "Six Feet Under" requested "I'm Telling You I'm Not Going" from Dreamgirls.

I've also been to a couple of funerals of theatre friends who echewed the traditional hymns in favor of showtunes.

I wonder... wwolfe October 4 2006, 23:23:30 UTC
...if anyone has ever used "Fire" by the Crazy World of Arthur Brown for their own cremation. I kind of hope so.

"I Had The Time of My Life" would be perfect, except I can never hear that song without thinking of Patrick Swayze in Dirty Dancing, and I would like my funeral to not be too morbid.

Hahaha! The ideal approach, I'd say.

I actually am tickled by "I Had the Time of My Life" - but Swayze Fear would stand in my way, as well.

The song I've always wanted played at mine is "Walking to New Orleans" by Fats Domino. I can't put into words why, but it just seems perfect for the occasion.

Was Simply Red's "If you don't know me by now" on the list? I have a friend who insists it be played at his funeral.

It wasn't. wwolfe October 4 2006, 23:28:42 UTC
But an excellent choice, nonetheless!
