Its really been a while since I worked up a good rant. I just really have not had the reason to rant, not truly rant in true redhead fashion...until this weekend...
Odd. I saw the design and did not like it. I didn't focus any thought as to why, I just knew I didn't like it. Your analogy of a shard of glass in the heart of Manhattan is very apt. As the son of a (now retired) fireman, the deaths of so many firemen and their brothers the port authority police, hit me hard. The memorial should indeed be for them and all the people (apart from the hijackers) who died there.
You hit it when you mentioned that politics and Governer George's desire to get something up there while he is still in office. It amuses me that the memorial will be so quick in going up. After all, it took nearly 60 years to get the WWII memorial finished which of course was 60 years too long!
In other words, hell yea! Well written! I may be perpetually annoyed that most of my tax dollars are funneled to New York City, but I do admire the spirit of the people there.

I think I'll just stay down here.
I agree with you about the memorial to the people lost, that makes the most sense for the familys that mourn loved ones from 9/11.
