I am super excited for your teaching job! And yes, you deserve a big, hearty pat on the back for your story in As You Were 2, I thought it was awesome! I hope you will keep contributing to future issues!
Teaching the 3rd-5th grade age group is THE WORST (sorry I can't be more positive about it). That was the age that my students in the after school comics program that I taught were, and for the most part, it was just glorified babysitting. Some of the kids were really talented though, so that was fun to watch. I think that kids that age are on the cusp of becoming self conscious and "too cool" to enjoy something. Granted, I had a good amount of nerdy kids who just loved to draw comics in the class, but I had just as many class clown types who just wanted everyone to think they were awesome and above it all.
Liz, Yeah I was super happy to be a part of AYW finally. I thought the second ish came out really really great and I'm def going to cook something up for the third issue. It was great to do an auto bio comics after 2 whole years! Hopefully I'll always be able to work one of those shorts into my schedule.
My second time in the classroom with these gremlins was today, and thankfully it was a LOT better. I had more activities planned for them and the one little dude who kept acting like the hulk was thankfully absent.
