Okay, someone really needs to explain to me...

...why on Earth do people have a problem with the ending of Mass Effect 3?!  I thought that was great!  Very satisfying and exactly the kind of end I might have imagined my Renegade Shep!  It felt like putting a really good book that I had devoured for years to rest, finally, and still left enough of an open question that I feel like they totally ( Read more... )

Unfortunately not. A friend of mine is leaving NYC for gainful employment, and so is having a last minute send-off.

Ah, so, from having read the "Renegade" ending possibilities, it seems to me that your ending is the most true to Shepard's ultimate goals from the start--stopping the Reaper's, end of story. It's a goddamned shame that that comes with severe consequences for innocent races like the Geth (and, I think, should do for Shepard, given his/her cyborg status), but it makes sense for Renegade Shep.

I was a little weirded out that the "blue" option, in the place and color heretofore exclusively associated with Paragon status was the bullshit control scheme that the Illusive Man was pushing. I felt like the "green" option was the most true of Paragon Shepard (that's what my more-Paragon-y-than-thou Shepard picked).

There's some complaints that have some legitimacy about the ending--the weird intelligence that runs the Matrix Reapers suddenly appearing and offering Shepard a choice for the future did come from nowhere. That's a shame, but it hardly ruins the goddamn games FOREVERS.

I'm literally stunned by the negative reaction. My Renegade Shep got closure with everyone, saved the planet, took down the bad guys and did it all while fighting for her last breath. It's used far too often, but I thought "epic" would be an appropriate word.

There's a guy who writes for Forbes who has some of the whiniest articles I've ever seen on Forbes on the topic:

Oh yeah, it's nothing for BioWare to churn out a little 3-5 minute free DLC. I fucking hate DLC and the nickel-and-dime shit EA's admitted they're doing to fuck over the used game market, but even I understand that if you're going to do something extra (versus, say, charging extra for something already on a disc someone has bought), it costs a lot of money. Especially if, as this guy is suggesting, BioWare should do something interactive. I'm sure it doesn't cost them ANYTHING to get Jennifer Hale and everybody back to record all that dialogue and to pay writers to have it for them to read in the first place ( ... )

I'm truly mystified by the reactions. I'm so flabbergasted by them that I've used multiple synonyms for "confused" in this very thread.

The only thing I can guess is that some people played the game hoping they could make a zillion choices and then watch some grand space opera cutscene at the end tailored to them. I get why someone would want to do that, but I don't know how you could expect that.

Myself, I played 30-ish hours of video game and watched my choices have in-game consequences for large parts of those 30 hours. And then the game ended in a pyrrhic triumph.

Which is kind of what I wanted. *shrug*
