I read all the way through, just in case. In this case, I like ferrets, but don't know what Balin's tomb is. :)
I didn't know they were closing American History for a while, but I know it's been in something of a state of disrepair and odd smells for a long time now. (I've been to Arts and Industries many times since it closed for renovation, because they had some tape backup equipment there that my company serviced. (They've since moved that office to Herndon.))
I just noticed that I never replied to this, so you get an Amazingly Late Reply.
Balin's tomb is that place in Moria where Gandalf is reading from the record books about the dwarves' last moments after they were retreating from the balrog. Apparently all of the doors were blocked. Gandalf ends up reading the line "We cannot get out! We cannot get out!"
Whereas the ferrets, of course, could not get -in-. Thus unfairly likening their owner to a balrog, or an anti-balrog, or stretching a comparison way too far.

Oh and amazon sells inexpensive swords, probably won't find exactly what you're looking for, but it's worth a look.
(whoops... this was a comment for your sword post, looks like I'm a bit off.)
