I just went to look up an old post to send to someone, and LJ put up a "This content sponsored by" interstitial ad over my post. Sure, i wasn't logged in at the time, but my content is supposed to be ad-free

To reuse content i posted below (i'm lazy): "I never actually agreed to [advertising]; i just agreed to let Danga change the terms of our agreement, which then got sold to Six Apart, and now to the Russians, who are possibly going to make good money off the 20% of the userbase they haven't driven away in the next few years."
Well, it's more like a service that used to be free when you signed up is no longer free. They have to make money somehow, and if you don't think it's a service worth paying for, and you think ads are really that offensive, then I suppose it makes sense to delete your account. Me, I think it's worth the cash (which means I never see ads anywhere on anyone's page).
Heh, that was my thought too. I'd quit if there were an acceptable replacement. As LJ worsens, other "blog software" becomes more appealing but nothing has met the bar yet.
I've been very impressed by Dreamwidth, or at least by their weekly update emails. They seem to actually fix bugs and add useful features regularly. I have no immediate plans to leave LJ, however...
Yeah, but this time i haven't used the service in forever, and they've put an interstitial in for people to get to my content. I don't like display ads, as they're kind of to be expected. Making people sit through a flash ad, or click "Close," in order to read my content is Not Okay. I never actually agreed to that; i just agreed to let Danga change the terms of our agreement, which then got sold to Six Apart, and now to the Russians, who are possibly going to make good money off the 20% of the userbase they haven't driven away in the next few years.
There are only ~9 people i still follow on here because i don't know them on any other service. I'll miss keeping up with those people, but i really don't want my content to be monetized in the way LJ is choosing to do so.
