Isn't Britain technically a theocracy...? You guys have a legal/state church or something, don't you?
The problem isn't really theocracy, but 'enforcing' religion, period. America is (in theory) a secular nation, yet so many of the laws are based on Judeo-Christian values, and there are still assaults on blacks, gays, feminists, transgendered people, ect ect, not to mention abortion clinics being bombed and pharmacists legally lying or refusing birth control (even refusing emergency contraception to rape victims in some extreme cases). The Westboro Baptists can still legally picket at funerals*, despite the hatred and grief this incites in everyone involved but themselves.
Theocracy itself isn't the problem but what causes theocracy: people feeling the need to enforce their religion on others. This happens whether the government is behind you or not. D:
* = Fox news is our conservative news channel. When they call someone out on being too "traditional"/conservative/ect., you know it's bad! \o/
