Yesterday we got home from UPS for the Conference meet. We were there 3 days, I had 3 races on Friday and Saturday. The race Friday was just a prelim but Saturday I had the 1500 and the 800 final. This weekend was the WU Invite. Really big meet, over 90 entrants in the men's 1500 and 5000 each. 3 heats for the women's 1500, 5 for the 800. Really big. I ran in the fast heat of the 1500 last night. I didn't win but I ran a 4:39.55. The National Provisional qualifying time is 4:40.20. So I qualified!! I ran at Hayward yesterday in the Oregon Preview. It was a glorious sunny day, so nice. I ran the 1500 with Jena. A 4:41.17. The natl provisional qualifier is 4:40.2. I was so close! I was waken up at 10 today when Jaime called. That was certainly a nice way to wake up. Neither of us had anything exciting to share really but to talk to him was nice. Hmm, let's see, been a while since I wrote here. Tomorrow is Black Tie, 9 days to our first track meet, just over 4 weeks till spring break and Mexico. Yesterday I talked to Jaime for a couple minutes but he was really tired and I could barely hear him so we didn't talk long. Yesterday was also 6 months since I saw him. Valentine's Day is the Super Bowl of romance -- all the build-up, all the potential, all the promise of lots and lots of scoring. But like the Super Bowl, most V-days are letdowns, filled with fumbles, wobbly passes, and missed opportunities to, uh, split the uprights.

So today in chem lab we were recrystalizing a compound we made last week to purify it. To do this we boiled it using organic solvents which have really bad-smelling toxic fumes. So to keep the fumes in the flask we set up this contraption that uses cold water from the sink to cool a long tube which causes the vapors to condense and fall back into ( Read more... )

I think somewhere in the back of my mind I knew it was coming. 21,500 more troops, one year deployments for Marines. I was hoping it wouldn't happen because they'd been there so long already but, then, so has everyone else. So Jaime's deployment has been extended until June.
