I bought a wireless router the other day and tried to get it to talk to my laptop. After several frustrating hours, I finally found the little note on the website of the Wireless card saying "known incompatability with router x". So, I'd check the hardware likes the hardware :-) (there was a patch ( ... )

Generally a wireless access point (or router, firewall etc) will only support a or b&g. g gets you the best speed, worth it if you are planning to do backups of each others PCs from time to time or anything else local rather than Internet based.

Yes - once I have worked out how to install it on Linux. And got my sound card working on Linux. (It doesn't work on Widows either to be fair.)

They should give Linux a tag line like: Linux: more work but more satifying when you get there. Or something.
