It's the most amazing place I've ever been, and I've been to a lot of places.

The Indians apparently believed that the spot was sacred and to go there meant to risk certain death. Given that it's a 100-400 foot drop from the rim down to the lake, I can see why they felt this way.

I was working this evening and Peter Gabriel's "Mercy Street" came on. I hadn't heard the song for years. Decided that I wanted to know what it is about; the lyrics say it's for Anne Sexton, the poet. Apparently she wrote a 2-act play called Mercy Street in the 1960s before she killed herself in 1974 ( Read more... )
