I liked the music, the inside jokes for the fans, the familiar faces and cameos, and the MSR stuff (especially Scratchy Beard!). I didn't like... pretty much everything else ( ... )

I think what I liked about the plot was that it was less paranormal and more a regular type scary story. Does that make sense? Kidnapping and hacking people to pieces, I like that in my movies. lol. I'm not sure what I would've thought had that fake werewolf plot turned out to be true.

Well... yeah, kidnapping and hacking people to pieces is great for a horror or suspense movie, but for a movie based on one of the longest running and most popular science fiction series in history, I would've hoped there'd be a bit more of a paranormal/supernatural aspect to it. Which there really wasn't, for the most part. I guess I just hoped/expected that the plot itself would be more like an actual X-Files case, like anything they would've investigated in the show (or the first movie).

Oh I totally agree with you to a point. lol. I mean there were XF episodes that were less paranormal and more "scary story" ... but I know exactly what you mean, the story itself is good (for me) but it does lack that really super-duper paranormal link. It more on the light side like say, Clyde Bruckman was - and I dont mean light as in comedy, of course. lol.

Started reading comments but I want to make mine before I forget everything. :P

I agree on all points of why you enjoyed the movie. Cinematography was beautiful, the exterior shots were amazing. I'm very glad they went back to Canada to make the movie. I haven't seen the extended cut yet but I'm glad it was included.

I like where we pick up with Mulder and Scully, all the nods to the fans included. I feel like the places where Samantha was shoehorned in were specifically for the purpose of people who were casual viewers of the show. Annoying to long time hardcore fans, but maybe a little more useful to those who might have only caught some episodes.

I agree with what was said by erries, the time the movie was released was absolutely idiotic. It was widely known that The Dark Knight was expected to take over the box office for most of the summer, I can't imagine why they would be willing to put The X Files up against it. I was so frustrated after waiting for as long as we have to see it have such a terrible release date. Had it been ( ... )

I think to be fair I believe (or I imagined it. lol) they had a release date way before The Dark Knight did and they had no idea that would be their competition. I also think they couldnt change it - or the studio didnt want to? I dunno.

Did they stay in contact with Doggett and Reyes? Has Mulder just been sitting home the whole time while Scully works? Did the FBI make an effort to find him or was all the chasing in the finale just for show? Were they on the run for awhile or did they settle down right away?

Aaahhh! There is so much fanfic that answers all these questions in so many ways, lol. But I completely agree with you, I wish SO BAD that ANY of this would've been even REMOTELY touched upon in the film. I know, I know, CC & Co. wanted to keep it separate from the series so they wouldn't alienate potential new fans, but... jeez, throw us a bone, you know?

As an anti-fan of Doggett and Reyes I'm pleased that they werent given a thought. lol.

I've never really gotten the bush/hoover joke. Or at least, it didn't do it for me.

I think its too cheesy, what with the xf theme played over the gag. It makes the film lose its realism for a moment. Perhaps if they had tried for it without the music it may have a been a bit better.

I about died laughing when Skinner whipped out his iPhone and declared that he would 'google it'! in the extended cut.

I think I missed that. MUST. WATCH!

I'm curious to know why CC made such a point of making it about 'a group of women' It makes the whole gay lovers thing seem a little ignorantly homophobic although I know it's not meant to be.I think its the scary-movie cliche of "women getting kidnapped by a creepy, seemingly pervy stranger, ooh scary!" The gay lovers thing kind of threw me and I still dont know what I think of it or why they even went for that angle. I think FS said on his blog (or I imagined it) that the two stories were supposed to contrast each other. What the two couples (M&S and creepy!Russians) would do to save their ( ... )

I agree with every word of this 110%. I think I literally cringed in the theater when I saw this moment for the first time, even though a few people in the audience chuckled. Ugh, it makes me embarrassed for the show, lol.

I absolutely loved this movie. I loved the cinematography and the snow. I loved the SCORE, omg. I loved Scully and her hair. I loved the Unremarkable House, and the scratchy beard scene. I loved all the inside jokes for longtime fans. I loved the CREDITS. I have never loved credits as much as these. I don't even care how cheesy the very end is. It still makes me smile. I loved the Skinner was in the movie and that I was COMPLETELY surprised by it!

I even didn't mind the plot or the new characters, though I could have done with more Mulder Scully scenes. But who could't, really? ;)

♥♥♥

I have yet to see the extended edition or any of the commentaries (been so busy!) but I'm definitely looking forward to them :D

How can you be too busy to watch XF!?! What kind of fan are you? :oP We should watch it all together!

I got spoiled about Skinners little role. But I was so, so, SO pleased to see the big bald beatiful dude. I think he and Scully stopped for some car sex ;o)

i loved the movie, mainly for the mulder/scully dynamic. it made me nostalgic for the show that i hadn't watched in years and made me fall in love with it all over again. i loved the cinematography and the music. visually, it's a very beautiful film. scully was awesome in this. i found her attitude with father joe a little surprising. it made me wonder if she had a history of abuse because she was seriously bothered by him.

i know some folks didn't like the plot but i watch xf for the characters and not the bizarre stories so maybe that's why i loved the movie. agent whitney was very annoying, i wonder if they did that on purpose or what. the return of skinner made me squeal in the theatre although i hoped he would show up. i agree that the movie should have been a fall release. it takes place in the winter and it seems more of a wintery film. overall, i loved it and it was so great to see characters i love again.

I dont think I would assume something that extreme. I just think that Scully's (supposedly) strong connection to children and a man of her faith doing those kinds of things would be very upsetting/agrrivating for her. Though, I dont think there is a person in the world who isnt bothered by people like Father Joe.

Yeah, that's another thing that was strange about its summer release - the film itself took place in the wintertime, and there were feet of snow all over the place everywhere you looked. Watching it last night, with my Christmas decorations still up and the wind howling outside, I enjoyed the scenery better than I did when it was July and I was sitting in a theater wearing shorts and a tank top. :P
