Third episode, what do we think?

I have to admit I found this one silly. The original series did some silly episodes occasionally, and they were good tension breakers, but I question the sense of one in this six episode mini season. It seems sort of like a waste of the little time they have. Though it does make good thematic points with Mulder doubting himself, and his beliefs.

Everyone is saying how hilarious tonight's X-Files was. I mean it was cute and funny. But hilarious? I love Darin's other episodes ('Humbug', 'War of the Coprophages', 'Jose Chung', and my #2 favorite episode after 'Beyond the Sea' - 'Clyde Bruckman's Final Repose'), and I got all of the inside jokes.... but I wanted more serious X-Files to go on for a while before the comedy started. I guess I thought they'd go for a draw of new suspenseful stories before they decided to laugh at themselves. Maybe it was a little too much like 'Bad Blood'. That's what it reminded me of. I think I need a re-watch. I thought the skit on Jimmy Kimmel was funnier... but that's just me.
I do still love that the show's back. If it's as popular as it seems, I hope it helps bring back more than these six episodes!

Darin Morgan! YAY!

And the Kim Manners tribute, aww...

But it was an actual sequel to Quagmire which is amazing and cool. I loved it.

It rode the line on being too silly, for me. But overall, I enjoyed it and didn't mind at all that one of our precious six episodes would be a quirky story like this. Since the quirkier episodes were my favorites, I agree with the choice to have one in this limited run.

I think I'll enjoy it even more upon rewatch, as I usually do with the comedy episodes. The overarching theme was very XF, and the guest stars were great. (I'll just ignore the few in-jokes that I thought were actually over the top - like the ring tone, which was funny but too meta for my tastes!)

I liked the in-jokes, but yeah, I couldn't handle the ringtone either. ...Ooh, but I just got an idea how to explain it away! Maybe it came from the soundtrack of the movie from Hollywood A.D.! Yes, this shall be my headcanon.

I really enjoyed it. I like the silly episodes, and I thought ep 2 was pretty problematic. It played as if 1) about 20 minutes - which would have provided connections and logic - had been cut out, and 2) as if the dialogue was almost a parody, or written by someone who'd seen the show and was just mimicking/recycling what he'd heard and overdoing the lack of affect (not effect, I promise you) in the delivery instructions. So to have an ep that felt to me as if I was watching the real characters, even in a silly context, was a real plus. (That was my Mulder, too. *g*)

I actually liked this episode a lot. You could tell the cast was really enjoying themselves and I think it was natural to expect at least one comedy episode in this bunch. When I get a comedy - and it's meant to be intentional comedy - I don't treat it too seriously. Some random comments:

It was great to see the actor Rhys Darby again - I loved the short lived show "Flight of the Conchords" and I always thought his character of band manager Murray stole that show.

Nice eyecandy for those fangirls and fanboys of Duchovny and Anderson.

My favorite line - how do I pick one really, though? - was something along the lines of "Mulder, the Internet is not good for you." Of course it brought me back to the very first seasons of the show and me looking up MSR smut during the early days of being online - god what a time that was! :D

Scully potentially getting another dog- AWWWWWW! Although it makes me grumble that they remember this continuity and not potentially other things. And ,of course, when I remember her other dog I again feel really ( ... )

If you haven't already, you should really see Darby in "What We Do In the Shadows"! In fact, I'm sure that's why he was cast in this role. In that movie he plays the alpha of a were-wolf pack. "Come on guys - watch the language! We're were-wolves, not SWEAR-wolves!"
