This is brilliant. I am loving the Melanie snark!! The whole cute children’s marketing thing is getting out of hand. She’s a human being, not a stuffed bunny, for fuck’s sake.
"I’m trying to get how a guy who writes an x-rated underground comic book about a gay superhero who gets blowjobs on the cover is calling our daughter ‘buttercup.’ BUTTERCUP? Where the fuck does that come from?”
Great, three six-year-olds. Merry fucking Christmas, Melanie Marcus. And yes, Gus and Jenny, your daddies are stoned. Just brilliant! This is what I liked aboout Melanie! & you write it so well.
And Justin's plan... so very Kinney Operating Manual! The ideas are great, I love ever little bit! The secrecy, the giddiness of those private moments. Justin knows just how to get what he wants (always has). You are a master of your craft. thankyou.... (waiting once more for part 3, and getting ready to give a standing ovation)
Thank you so much. It's interesting that Justin and Melanie were the characters who clawed their way out of my head first ... Brian is kicking around in there now, but they defintely were the strongest initially. I'm really enjoying writing this. I keep reading the stories going ... did I write this? Where the fuck did this come from?
This is so good-- I was hoping all day today at work that the second part would be up and it was-- thanks for another great post. One of the best stories I've read in a while.
It's taut, it's lean, it's intelligent, it's perfectly Justin and I love it.
I love it when people think Melanie is funny, or when I make people like her who don't want to. But I still have to say, "getting" Justin, having it be "perfectly Justin," is probably the highest compliment. So thank you so much.
I have a meeting in 8 minutes, so I must run, but I wanted to say I LOVE IT, and I'll be back later to read a second time and share my thoughts. For now, though, let me just say that THIS:
I had twelve emails from Brian. All blank. I sent twelve blank replies. Really, I liked this better than if it had been a dozen fucking roses.
...is BEAUTIFUL, I swear I could have fainted when I read that. =)
I wonder if it is the 'ridiculously romantic' part of my brain that this story awakens, but in any event, the way I read the last part of your comment was as though you were saying it the way Meg Ryan says 'magic' in 'Sleepless in Seattle' - "felt like...mmmmagic."
Great chapter. I was falling out at times, especially with this:
Nothing against Mikey, he’s Jenny’s dad and I actually love him to death, but he’s, you know, a comic book geek who can spend quality time with Gus without dumbing down his entertainment choices. I’m just saying.
I'm like "I know!!" LMFAO
Justin has a damned good plan. And Brian gets it, seems like. Especially knowing that being around the others screws things up for them. Melanie, of all people, seems to understnad that. I like it that she's helping in her own, snarky way. Her observations on Lindsay are friggin funny, Michael and Brian going out to get stoned has her shaking her head...you know, her and Justin are the new Pinky & The Brain!!!
I'm in love with your Melanie. This is Mel how she should have been represented on the show. I adore her witty and at moments quite sharp thoughts.
Justin's plan is work of genius, but I think Brian has already seen through Justin's masterful ruse, or maybe he's just gotten an inkling of something happening in the background. Ah, not "maybe" , but definitively!

I like it very much myself. Obviously.
I have to confess the blank email thing when it burst out of the little section of my brain inhabited by Justin, felt like... magic.

LOL, well, me too, but I'm trying to be kind to Lindsay for her sake.
