Entries like these do nothing but fuel my gay-boi crush on you.

Because I'm a geek?

Well, yes.

Speaking of geekiness, a friend of mine wants to start up a book club. We're looking for a few smart women. Interested?

It'd be a once a month group.

Yes, please keep me posted on the book group.

We're semi-neighbors now, so maybe we should meet for that beverage/food that we mention every now and then.

Since you are my one of my favorite geeks and not too nerdy a one, a lover of linguistics, and with the Christmas season fast approaching, I offer to you this unique little song, an Anglo-Saxon translation of Rudolph the Red Nosed-Reindeer:

Incipit gestis Rudolphi rangifer tarandus

Hwæt, Hrodulf readnosa hrandeor --
Næfde þæt nieten unsciende næsðyrlas!
Glitenode and gladode godlice nosgrisele.
Ða hofberendas mid huscwordum hine gehefigodon;
Nolden þa geneatas Hrodulf næftig
To gomene hraniscum geador ætsomne.
Þa in Cristesmæsseæfne stormigum clommum,
Halga Claus þæt gemunde to him maðelode:
"Neahfreond nihteage nosubeorhtende!
Min hroden hrædwæn gelæd ðu, Hrodulf!"
Ða gelufodon hira laddeor þa lyftflogan --
Wæs glædnes and gliwdream; hornede sum gegieddode
"Hwæt, Hrodulf readnosa hrandeor,
Brad springð þin blæd: breme eart þu!"

Hope you liked it!

I never thought of you as a geek, you were always just "bookish" to me. Of course either way I think you're great. Where as so many of us spend many minutes everyday commenting on our dull lives, you save it up and drop something really profound on us. You are a remarkable bookish geeky whatever : )

Hey Xeenie! Working today? I happened to see your little rant before I took a shower to go out but it's gone now. As usual, you got my imagination running in all directions and I had a comment. Maybe you had second thoughts? Perhaps it's just as well, although it wasn't personal ... just a kind of sociological observation and a germ of a theoretical experiment. Hope your day is going well. I'm recovering from one of my "lesser" bouts with vertigo, but am trying to get out for a while. It's nice and chilly. Moving slow though. *smiles*

Howdy Ed!

Yes, I worked this morning. I took the post down because it just seemed petty and stupid, mostly because he turned out to be a good patron otherwise (if slow to clear out at closing time), even if my "jerk" diagnosis was confirmed by David, who had spoken with him yesterday. I probably should have posted it to the library_mofo community instead. Oh well. There will be other jerky patrons, I'm sure.

But, please, comment away if you like.

I'm glad you're feeling better, and hope you continue to do so.

What do you think of Midnite Vultures? Beck is the music guest on Saturday Night Live tonight, and Hugh Laurie is returning to his comedic roots to host. I'm very excited for this show!

Hi Buckaroo!

Yes, I saw the “double header” that's on SNL tonight and of course immediately thought about you. I’ll try to make this quick as I know you’d probably prefer to be alone.

I may write that comment later, if and when my mind clears, as I’m still rather shaky tonight. Plus, I don’t want to take the chance of seeming offended or offensive, as I am really trying to be thoughtful.

Midnight Vultures? You know, I did hear Beck before - Beautiful Way. When I bought my computer before last, a Compac ME, there were a few sample songs and videos in the package and BW was in it.

I first listened to the song Debra by itself and liked the lyrics but wasn’t crazy about the vocals and found the arrangement a little overwhelming. I later listened to the album from start to finish and, while the "techno-funk-blues" or whatever thing it is is not my cup of tea, I did get caught up in certain parts, especially by “side two”. Broken Train I liked a lot, especially the beat, and also liked most of Nicotine and Gravy, Hollywood Freaks, ( ... )

Now isn't that a coincidence?

Both you and Hugh Laurie are seven of clubs.
