October is National Breast Cancer Awareness MonthWhy is this an issue I feel so strongly about? My mother was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1998 and recovered, and was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic breast cancer in 2001. She is not expected to live through it. i have like an insanely high risk of breast cancer (i have Turner Syndrome, which pretty much makes one a genetic time bomb like that) so i tend to appreciate being able to get a free boobsqueeze-n-irradiation out of the tightwads at hartford ho-spital. (i've had to have them yearly since i was 14, and i can dodge the insurance company asking too many questions if they don't have to pay for it. Bonus.

I also wanted to thank you.

My mother had breast cancer. She was diagnosed in '98 or '99. She had a mastectomy just before Christmas 1999. We have been scared several times that she had found a lump in her other breast, but each time we have been told it is a benign cyst.

I took some of your pictures/icons and will post something (with a link to this) in my journal, as well as a women's community I am a member of.

Thank you again. I am sad to say that I too need reminders even with my family history.

Hey, I'm going to nab < this icon for use on my journal and one of the images (the one with plain black and red text).
My aunt had breast cancer, she chose for the lump to be removed and not the whole breast, the cancer came back and she gave up right there and then, from a life loving person to nothing at all, she just died, mentaly long before physicaly.
My other aunt had breast cancer too, although she made a recovery (and got a wonderful head of hair back that all my graying aunts were green with envy over) she still has to keep an eye on herself, it's still a constant threat and pain for her.
So anyway, hope you don't mind me nabbing these images, they are really good, you did a great job, take care *hugs*
