I've finally figured out how to get the built-in version of Solaris' SEAM to talk nicely with my Heimdal KDC.

kinit worked fine always, but the pam module proved stubborn. It needs a keyfile in /etc/krb5/krb5.keytab _AND_ it seems to only want to work when the only encryption type in that keyfile is des-cbc-crc.

Lost a rather large disk yesterday. The hard drive out of the new Sony VAIO (a IBM/Hitachi DeskStar, affectionatly known as a DeathStar by most of the community) crapped out. I'm not exactly sure how much data I lost (I know my mom lost about a gigabyte worth of e-mail, though she may not care), but it may or may not be a lot.

Just a quick tip. If you are using the Java Media Player or Blastwave's XMMS on Solaris 10 and your audio quality suffers, uncheck the mixer-mode option in sdtaudiocontrol.

I'm at the North Carolina Association for Educational Communications and Technology Conference typing on one of the new iMacs. The Apple has about twenty assorted machines here, all very cool. I'm installing Solaris 10 today. Version 9 has got me really riled up with problems I've never had before. For example, Mozilla 1.4 will not create a error free profile anymore. The default address books, Personal and Collected, have strange URI in chrome in the place of their proper name. I can drag bookmarks around to re-arrange them, and a whole ( Read more... )

I'm reinstalling Solaris on my workstation for what I hope to be the final time. I had terrible trouble with the newest upgrade to Solaris 9 not wanting to install all of it's packages.
