You succeeded in turning the awfulness into style and character. I actually got invested in Frig and the way she spoke speakingly with her voice. The language was part of her character, and she seemed like the kind of girl who was destined to be with a rainbow-crapping space alien because who else could deal with her?

If a publisher won't bite for Xlormp, you should self-publish on Kindle. I will buy it again. I will tell my friends to buy it. Anyone who has read Twilight needs to read Xlormp.

I'm really glad you are doing this! I only read the first half of the first Twilight book, but I loved Xlormp and Frig (still keep my Xlormp doll prominently displayed!). I hope an agent sees your brilliance, and even if they feel the market is saturated with Twilight-alikes, that Xlormp and Frig are special! That agent wasn't kidding, your writing is great!

There are lots of satire out. Add some zombies and you could be Seth Grahame-Smith

Personal rejections are a wonderful thing. It means that whoever opens the mail or reads the slush, liked it enough to pass it on. It made its way up the ladder because at every step, someone read it and liked it enough to pass it upwards. It reached the person who makes the purchasing decisions, because everyone thought it was good. Editors and purchasers don't have time to encourage shitty writers with no talent and no prospects, so they don't say nice things about your work that they don't absolutely mean. A personal rejection means the person read it and thought about it, probably liked it and believes you have talent. However, manuscripts are seldom purchased based on how much the buyer likes what they read, it's all about how well it will sell ( ... )

Thanks! I'm actually querying agents, not publishers, and agents typically do reply, but giving specific compliments/encouragements (from what I've heard) means they did enjoy some part of it. So I am happy about the rejections!

Yeah, I know my timing is off, but I didn't feel right going the publishing route when I first wrote it, unfortunately. A lot of people encouraged me to, though. I'm actually inspired by the 50 Shades of Grey timing since it is massively popular in part due to the Twilight connection, so I'm hoping that will work in my favor...

I really don't know if I could go through the motions of Xlormp and Frig meeting again, but maybe I could work it into the re-writes. My other thought was maybe having Schmeertz meet someone, and that could be the 50 Shades story, but he already has Candy. Also, the Earth is blown up.
