Before one of the burlesque shows, while the dancers were hanging out and doing makeup etc., a few girls were talking about how they didn't want to live in Hi/Low-Rise because it was so near a bad neighborhood, was so dangerous, etc. Literally they were flipping their collective shit at the prospect of living in the Rises. I went through the same thought process that you did.

Yikes... the awful thing is, I can so see something like that happening with one of the frosh at Bates.

The tour should be conducted entirely in the rises. If you don't like it, you can go to Yale

I would argue that the area surrounding the campus in New Haven is way worse than the surrounding area in Middletown

that was my tounge-in-cheek point. It's not that bad here. but if this isn't classy enough, and one equates classy with safe, then go live behind huge stone walls in a town thats much less safe.
