Erik/Charles: postapocalyptic au anonymous June 11 2011, 00:17:27 UTC
Nuclear, biological and/or chemical warfare ended up ravaging the planet, before Erik and Charles ever met. Only some mutants -- along with a few humans -- survived. After quite a while of having to survive alone (or with others, author's choice), Erik and Charles meet, and find renewed hope in their growing relationship and the new society they decide to build.

They infect the water. The army water supplies go down first, just as Erik makes his way back into Berlin, and it’s not long before they know. Soldiers are whispering everywhere and they’re scared ( ... )

The disease hits the ports first. Plymouth, Glasgow, Dublin, Newcastle, Liverpool. London. The country is in chaos and the government is running on the backs of less than half of its men before the first victim even reaches Oxford. It spreads from the hospital and a friend gives Charles a gas mask on his death bed. Relic from the war. Charles gives it to Raven and refuses to let her take it off.

The last news of America that’s not simply gossip says that the threat has been contained in LA. People run with it. “Get to America,” they say. “Just get there.”

“We have to get to America.” Charles says, his eyes wide and his voice desperate. He grabs Raven’s arms and he can see her eyes are terrified behind the mask. “We have to... we have to get home. Mum will be fine. She’ll be in the bunker and she’ll be fine and if I can get you there then we will be fine, too, Raven, I promise ( ... )

In Potsdam Erik steals a car. In Hannover he finds a young boy trying to steal a dead man’s shoes and together they break into a hotel. Sebastian, he says his name is, and he’s Polish, too. The disease killed his father and sister but not him and he’s angry at the world in a hot, heavy, overwhelming way that Erik distantly remembers. Long may it last, he thinks.

“Can you do anything?” Erik asks him, the intense conviction that it must have been his ability that allowed him to survive the disease when thousands lie dead in the streets like hot blood in his veins ( ... )

“Excuse me!”

Female, young, American, Charles notes. He doesn’t stop. He’s the only one in the street so it must be him she wants (unless she's hallucinating) but he needs to get back to Raven ( ... )

OP here and omg, this is fantastic. Haha, no, I am terribly upset that this is going to turn into a MASSIVE story. :DDD

But seriously, this is gorgeous and completely amazing, full of all the small details that make this completely believable, and already the characterization is awesome -- I can completely *see* both of these guys and their stories in my head and just... ahhhhhhh this is wonderful. <3

I meant to say, the scene with Raven and Charles, when he wakes up after being so sick? Brilliant. I *felt* the emotion when she yelled at him to never leave her again...

Also, I love the stuff with Eric and Sebastian -- and I'm dying to see where that goes, wow.
