If you go for colored trim on your dress, I would go with purple to match your BMs. Though, if you have a secondary color to your wedding, that would work as well. (Like if your colors were purple and pink, you could do pink.) I loved this AA dress when I was looking. I loved the AA dresses so much more than David's, but AA didn't have the color I wanted. :(

As far as venues, definitely start looking now. If you find a place that you absolutely love, book it now, so that you don't have to worry about it not being available later (they typically book up to a year in advance, sometimes more if it's a really popular place, and spring is a busy wedding time). If you let me know what area you want to get married in and what type of place you're looking for, I can poke around in my multitude of free time and see if anything looks nice. :)

I screwed up this comment twice already, lol.

I love the dress you linked to, actually. I like how it’s colored on the top and bottom. I want a big train though. Every time I tried on a dress with a smaller train, I was like “meh” hahaha. Once I tried on the big trains, I wasn’t going back!

Style 1612 is my favorite but I also love 1141. I like 1708 and 1516 as well. I like the removable (I think?) sash on 1719 too, and would probably get white for the ceremony and colored for the reception ( ... )

Ugh, I can't believe you like big trains, lol. I didn't really want one since I was going to be outdoors and I just knew it would get really dirty. But the weight difference between a dress with no train and a dress with a big one? You will DEFINITELY notice that ( ... )

I was very surprised with the first few dresses I tried on, how heavy they were ( ... )

I smiled so big reading all this. I'm so excited for you and I know you will make a beautiful (and sane!) bride and be an awesome BOH and bridesmaid for all your friends. *yayyy

The first time I tried on gowns, I was with my friend and BM Ashley and our friend Megan, and they were like "OMG you're going to be a beautiful bride." Wedding dresses make you feel beautiful even if you're not comfortable with your body (I'm not right now--I've seriously gained like 30 pounds which is a lot on a small frame). Ashley's baby nieces were with us, too, and the older one, Natalynn (20 months old, I LOVE HER SHE'S MY FAVORITE LITTLE KID) told me I was pretty in the one dress ( ... )

BM is funny because it means bowel movement. You keep talking about poop.

It also means bridesmaid or best man when discussing wedding planning, which this post is. I've worked in hospitals long enough to know it also means bowel movement, thanks.

Who the hell are you?

Oh yay! I've been waiting for a wedding update lol. I'm so jealous that you get to go to so many expos! There was one out here while I was planning, but it wouldn't have done me any good since I already had my dress and the actual wedding was across the country. Trying on dresses is so exciting! The dress sets the whole tone for everything that comes after. At first I was scared about my dress because we were going to have our reception outdoors, which would have called for a simpler and smaller dress than I'd wanted, so I was really glad when we were able to do it where we did, because it matched the statement of my dress perfectly ( ... )

Oh! And a lot of venues will charge caterers a service fee for using their kitchen - even for storing the food/keeping it warm - and sometimes that fee will get passed to the client, which is another hundred or two. So ask the venues if they have a service fee for the kitchen and how much, then ask the caterers if that is passed on to you. It helps to get a working contract from the caterers so everything is delineated for you.

I never thought about service fees and gratuity. I'm going to start making a list of questions to ask potential reception sites/caterers, so that will have to be on there. Thank you!

I kind of worry about my dress being too formal for our wedding. I want cocktail attire and will state it on the website when we make one. We're having a buffet and we might not even have a limo. But I want a huge pretty princess gown, haha.

Your question has inspired me to make a post of very important wedding people, haha. I'll probably do that tomorrow. Marisa is my best friend and MOH. Bridesmaids are Ashley (other best friend), Sadie (my wife, daisee!), Caitlin (my cousin), and Courtney (James's sister).

Yeah it's crazy, because as big and complicated as you think weddings are, they're bigger and more complicated lol. Even if it's a relatively small number of people, you still have to arrange for all the same things. Another thing it wouldn't hurt to ask is if the venue has a security deposit, ask how much it is and what would constitute them keeping some or all of it. I know I only took a three month crash-course in wedding planning, but if you ever have any questions at all during all this, definitely feel free to ask and I'd love to try to help you out!

I still have high hopes for you. You are hot and you are a catch, and you've got the most amazing little boy in the world. And as much as you don't like them sometimes, your parents are pretty awesome. Someone will want to marry you. =)
