Possibly a silly question, but is there any good fic out there that deals with asexuality? Barring that, stories which feature celibacy as a happy choice? Barring that, stories in which a character chooses not to get into any romantic relationship and sticks to that conviction?

Not that I know of but now you've made me want to write one about Spencer being celibate because everyone is too beneath him to bother.

Hmmm and how are you using asexual? Do you mean not interested in having sex because it's too much of a bother/too likely to lead to television stealing/too likely to lead to disease or asexual as in not interested in sex at all, not even masturbation? Because I'm very very very happily celibate but not so much with being asexual.

OH. OH. What would I have to do to get you to write the first one? Because whatever it is, I WOULD SO DO IT. Srsly. Story exchange time.

The three things I mentioned up there aren't the same phenomenon, but I'd read a story about any of them. Asexuality as in total lack of interest in sexual behavior, celibacy because why not, no relationships because you don't really want or need one.

Well, now I'm going to have to write it because I have Spencer sitting on a couch reading a book and calmly explaining to JWalk that no, really, he's not having sex because why should he have sex with someone else. It's ridiculous looking, has a high risk of disease, inevitably results in someone expecting him to remember his/her name and leads to drama and angst and woe. While sipping tea ( ... )

...I am actually doing a tiny chairdance at work in anticipation of this story. SPENCER THE SNOTTY CELIBATE. OMG. HI KINK I DID NOT KNOW I HAD. And tea just makes it pornier.

Hee! I'm not particularly attached to smut under most circumstances. I skip it in fic. I don't dislike it, but it'd be cool to read a different approach for once. :)

Bah! I was just playin' perv and such. I mean, I love the smut, but I don't need the smut. That's what the other 57% of the internet is for.

Last night, I wrote a Panic-and-William orgy with schuyler. I think that broke my porn button. Kind of like getting too much dopamine. :)

I'm celibate these days, something that I want and need at least for now and you made little bunnies come up to me and say hi and I was like "HAI celibacy bunny, I think I want you" but now I can't actually see anyone in my fandoms being celibate.

...does this mean my fandoms = bunch of ho's?

I betcha could think of SOMEBODY. Even if it was just crack.

(For me, it'd be Gerard. The most sex I can picture him having is like, getting really passionate about the subtle color overlays Vertigo approved for his limited series. I try to picture the Gerard sex tape and my brain just shuts off with a little "weh?")

In my head Eliza rides Gerard like a pony. Every night. :D
Mikey? Well, I call him Mikeyho. Nuff said.
Ray/Bob? But that seems kind of mean. They already get the least action in this fandom. (plus that Ray not sexing would be such a waste of mangoods)

Still, with Gerard getting lucky every night and Ray.with.thighs., I can kind of imagine Ray and Gerard having a celibate relationship.

I always picture Eliza shiny and featureless and poseable under her clothes. Gerard too, bulge nonwithstanding. They're like Scene Queen Barbie and Ken.

Even back in the day when Gerard's gf was imaginary unphotographed, I could never sex him effectively; my brain just does not GO there. He rubs his crotch and writes "CUNT" on himself and I'm like, aww, I bet he's hot when he's reading Foucault. I was the same way about Lance Bass in my last fandom; he'd date cornfed 'childhood sweethearts', get 'accidentally caught' sucking face with his latest girlfriend at premieres, and lick tequila off three Playmates in a row and I was like, 'do you come with those little removable plastic boots?'. Even now that he came out gay, he's still a shiny shiny smooth cockless thing to me.

...and I digress, which I tend to do when I'm tired. RayGerard is a good thing. They could reproduce with spores!

Uh...angel wrote an OC as asexual. But then he wasn't. He just doesn't like most people. Whoops. :D (Jonas.)

I haven't run across most of these people but I'd LOVE to see one that explores real asexuality, like, seriously not wanting to have sex instead of just choosing to not sleep with someone.

AVEN is a good place to look up info and just find out more about asexuality in general - there are a lot of variations in people's attitudes, just like any other sexuality.

I'd like to see anything about celibacy or gen, too. I've been saying for a long time that I'd like to see a Patrick/Pete piece in which, despite everyone's convictions, they're just friends and they stay that way because really, that's what they should be.

The problem is -- often in fic the romance is what drives the action. Asexuality and celibacy creates its own tension, but "we're friends. no really, just friends" lacks some plot.

See, I think that's because authors (and I totally include myself in this) are lazy and stick to tropes that we're sure will appeal or ones we write effectively. It's like the news. Picture a front page large-type article reading "OVER 726 PESTICIDES WILL NOT HARM YOU!" or "PERCENTAGE OF PEOPLE NOT HELD UP IN CONVENIENCE STORE ROBBERIES ON THE RISE!" or "MILLIONS LIVE THEIR WHOLE LIVES WITHOUT CONTRACTING CANCER!" or "WOMAN IS EXCELLENT MOTHER, POSSIBLY GUIDING SON AWAY FROM CAREER IN DRUG DEALING!" Instincts say those headlines are ridiculous, not 'news', but IMHO they're just as valid as the bad-news headlines we do have.

If we tried to write stories about celibacy, asexuality, or friendship, maybe we'd be compelled to find interest in those things. Asexuals certainly don't seem to feel they're boring by nature. In the case of your Pete/Patrick, you've already described the hook--the readers, conditioned by slash, will expect 'more' at every turn and the interest will come from not getting it. A story like that might make ( ... )

Do it. Please. I will pay you in sexless fic.

HURRAH! After my other challenges come up due. I was thinking about making it a multifandom thing, since the "sexlessness is boring" trope isn't just in RPS.
