Otherwise it's a really good story--a little youthful, but good, and it does unusual things with the topics. It's only when things get to romance that it turns horribly, ridiculously, stomach-churningly twee (and there's a m/m pairing in it that's just the same).
Unrelatedly, it bugs me that the gay and bi characters in the fic randomly defend themselves about being attracted to underage kids (as if we'd assume they were), or are being accused of it by 'good' characters who are later mollified. Methinks the author has a hangup.
I want that job. "So what do you do?" "Oh, I try kissers. Lemme tell you about this wonderful one."
Reading this fic has kept me on a knife's edge of good and bad points. On one hand, it nails kinks of mine that are rarely, if ever, addressed well in fanfiction. I'd put up with a lot for that. On the other hand, GLORIOUS, WILLFUL MANE.
I've almost put it down for good three times. Finally I've got to the point that the moment I read the girl's name in a paragraph, I make my eyes go vague and scroll downward quickly.

"I pulled him to the bed and we made love like I'd always dreamed: a boastful, passionate, whispering, masculine kind of love..."
