We've arrived in Boston. Left Seatac 1hour late, had to run for connection in MSP. That flight sat for an extra 40 minutes before takeoff, arrived net 20 minutes late.

Flying seems less fun and friendly, more troublesome and work. Northwest has a stupid (sadly common) policy about baggage now.

And which stupid policy of the many stupid policies could that be? tirianmal January 15 2009, 22:50:24 UTC
The charging you for any baggage you check? Which then forces everyone to try and crowd their *insanely* large bags into the main cabin and the overhead compartments? Yeah ...

That'd be the one, yeah.

By charging for all checked luggage instead of large/ heavy pieces, they screw the flight crew and get terrible weight (and this fuel) estimates, whilst pissing off (on?) their customers. It's stooper-efficient!

It's worse than that: When I worked for BA, I had a substitute boss one week who had over 40 years experience - including having worked crash investigations. He said a common feature of the survivable crashes he'd seen was luggage piled in the aisles, and bodies piled on the luggage, which they'd tripped over in the smoke and panic. "If it were up to me, we'd only allow one carry-on, no bigger than a briefcase."

I'd love to catch up with you while you're in town, if you're not already booked up.
