Dungeons and Dragons receives a large chunk of my time and attention these days. We're about to see a bunch of new material with the release of PH3 in mid-March, and preview excerpts are drifting out as we speak. I usually spend *ahem* adequate time pondering these new releases, and I thought I might share some of those thoughts.

Thoughts about the upcoming Battlemind class )

But from this description, it sounds impenetrable.
To be fair, 3.5 wasn't exactly obvious on a first reading either... and I'm not saying 4th Ed isn't much better, much simpler, and of that stuff -- I have no idea.
But man, even if this is simpler, it still doesn't sound simple.

1) my comments are entirely about the technical side, the `crunch'. The excerpt that we have to go on is almost entirely a preview of the mechanics; we haven't even seen the `flavor' part of the class yet.
2) the book from which this is an excerpt is pretty specifically ``ok, we have enough basic material out by now that we can afford to put out a book filled with the complex&complicated options''. This isn't to say that the game doesn't sometimes get crazy, but it's nothing compared to 3.5 past 6th level or so...
If you're still interested in 4e in the fall, the next block of releases (basically, the last third of 2011) is almost exclusively about ``getting started'' products.

Thanks for the clarification. My ignorance is reduced! :-)
