Wasn't Yamamoto the one who also said that he wouldn't want to invade America because he knew there would be a gun waiting behind every blade of grass? The Allies owe a lot of their victory to the fact that the Axis leaders just flat-out didn't listen to their generals.

I can still remember the night the Gulf War started back in '91 and how terrified I was. That amounted to a little skirmish that was over in a matter of weeks. I can only imagine what it would have been like to live during WWII.

That night was pretty scary. I remember the news reporting that many major cities had no reports of violent crime that night so it must have even freaked out the criminals.

I was born and grew up in that exact window of time between the end of the Vietnam War and the decline and fall of the Cold War and I think I got it in my head as a child that war didn't happen anymore, or at least not in such a way that involved us in our part of the world. Operation Desert Storm happened so very abruptly and was something my generation just did not have a context for at the time.

No Mike, you never told me! You should come over someday and then we can visit the places where you know he's been. It's a few hours drive from here, but I'd so go there with you ;-)

A trip to Europe is one of our dreams! We'd absolutely have to hit Scotland (Becki's a Wallace ya know), England (I have friends in Yorkshire) and Belgium to meet you in person.
