Satoshi was panting.

Not only was it summer, but he was also running in full costume to his next mark. A few hours before Arashi’s last concert in Nagoya was set to start, the members and staff could be found doing final checks on equipment and stage modifications. Sho was going through some of their harder choreography with Aiba again. Discreetly watching the pair, Nino was trying for all the world to look like he wasn't checking his own steps against theirs at the same time.

Matsumoto frowned and held his microphone up to tell the stage director about a glitch in one of the huge screens. Staff and backup dancers were on standby, some waiting backstage and others in the stand seating watching the chaos.

Arashi was currently running through a few changes in the center stage setup. Particularly to see how it would shorten Ohno’s time to change costumes before his solo, much to his annoyance.

The music for "Lucky Man" blared out from the speakers. As usual, Leader was listening to the melody through his ear piece instead. He dutifully went through the last part of his in the song, before he started to jog off stage and glanced back to see how the others were fairing.

It was then, as Ohno was starting down the stairs next to the runway, he got distracted by a sexy move Jun’s hips were doing. The next seconds were in slow motion as his foot was caught by something, propelling him forward abruptly. Realizing his dilemma, he desperately reached out to grab the hand rail, but missed.

Ah, crap-

His body kept falling. Instincts kicked in to make him throw his arms up to protect himself.

Everything went dark after that.

“Ohno-san!”

Jun’s head shot up at a staff member’s panicked shout. He bolted off in the direction of the yell, Sho, Aiba, and Nino right behind. Reaching the top of the stage stairs where he’d last seen Ohno, Jun was shaken by the sight of his boyfriend lying at the bottom, unmoving.

“Satoshi!”

In his haste, Jun ignored his own safety and half-jumped down the stairs. His friends followed just as quickly. Pushing the kneeling crew member out of his way, Matsumoto collapsed to one knee and reached out to touch Leader, but stopped when he remembered you shouldn’t move an injured person.

“Oh-chan!”

Nino and Sho were pale as the knelt at Ohno's side. Aiba was on the verge of tears, holding onto Sho's arm tightly. “Leader.”

The voices of his group members seemed to have an effect because Ohno’s face scrunched up in pain and he let out a low hiss. Jun learned to breathe again.

“Somebody call a doctor!”

Satoshi’s shoulders twitched and then his body curled in on itself. Jun set a hand on his back, worried out of his mind. “You shouldn’t move.”

Ohno didn’t appear to be hearing anything clearly just yet and moved to sit up. He didn’t make it far, because four pairs of hands were shoving him back down.

“Leader!”

Ohno seemed to work through the haze and muttered, “I’m fine.”

Jun shot him a glare and frowned. “You are not fine. You just fell down a flight of stairs.”

“Should we call an ambulance?” Nino was shakily getting his cell phone out.

“I’m not going... to a hospital. We only have... a few hours until the concert starts.” Ohno tried to sit up again, but was stopped when Jun swung a leg over the shorter man’s body to straddle him lightly.

“You’re not moving from this spot until the doctor comes.”

No one else objected, so Satoshi was forced to lie still while his group and the staff waited anxiously for the doctor to arrive. Sighing his resignation, Ohno closed his eyes and patted a hand on the back of his head.

“Does it hurt?” Jun brushed the sweaty bangs out of his love’s face, still frowning.

“It’s not that bad. Really, it’s fine.”

No matter the reassurance, Jun stubbornly refused to move. After another five minutes, the doctor appeared running towards them led by a staff member. The man was taken aback to see the patient under a rather protective Matsumoto Jun.

Jun finally shifted off his injured boyfriend to let Doctor Sakai, as the man was introduced, perform his examination under close watch. Already skeptical because of the doctor’s arrival time, which was much too slow in his opinion, Matsujun narrowed his eyes.

“Is he gonna be alright?” All the members waited uneasily for a reply to Sho’s question.

Ignoring everyone but his patient, Sakai pulled a penlight from his front pocket and knelt to inspect Ohno’s pupils. “Can you tell me your name?”

Grumbling softly as the light hit his eyes, “Ohno Satoshi, Leader, Sami...Take your pick.”

Smiling softly at his patient, Sakai said, “I see your sense of humor is intact. Can you sit up?” The doctor moved to help Ohno off the ground.

Jun and company jumped forward in panic. “Is that really okay? He wasn’t even conscious when we found him. “

Sakai didn’t respond immediately to the worried onlookers as he was observing Satoshi’s movements. “His response time is normal. I need to see the extent of any injuries he may have.”

Trying to keep his temper under control, Jun only flashed an annoyed look at the murmuring staff members still huddled around. After what Matsujun felt was a pointless, short examination, he was outraged to hear Sakai say Ohno was cleared to perform. Matsumoto angrily stomped forward, Sho missing the opportunity to grab his shoulder to hold him back.

“How the hell can you be sure?” Jun only refrained from strangling the doctor by crossing his arms. Sakai looked pointedly at him and explained, “Yes, it’s correct, he may have a minor concussion, but truthfully speaking, most cases don t need any treatment. We won’t really be able to see any further symptoms until they develop. His reaction time is a little slow, but acceptable.”

Doctor Sakai replaced his penlight casually into his pocket. “For now, you’ll need to watch him closely over the next forty eight hours.” The doctor turned slightly to face the remaining members of Arashi. “Particularly, you four. You’re the people who know Ohno-san the best. You’ll be able to tell if he starts acting strangely.”

Everyone but Matsumoto shared relieved glances. “You should watch for any signs of disorientation, poor concentration, or excessive fatigue-” Jun cut Sakai off by stepping forward, gesturing with a raised hand to stop. “Doctor, we won’t be able to tell if he has any of those symptoms. That’s how he is normally.”

Once again, Sakai ignored his comment and picked up where he left off. “Or if he develops a migraine, sensitivity to light, or short term amnesia. I’ll be here on standby the rest of the night if anything happens. Now, I suggest you get ready for your show.” Ohno smiled brightly at Sakai and his friends, of which Nino, Sho, and Aiba responded with grins and high fives. Jun wasn’t happy, but he was outnumbered. His band mates looked to him for clearance to resume final checks.

Jun clicked his tongue, grumbling unenthusiastically, “Let’s go.” He wouldn’t let himself be swayed by the wide smile his boyfriend gave him.

Organized pandemonium reformed around them, crew flying off in every direction, screeching orders, and the performers getting into correct costumes and positions. This unruliness was the atmosphere the men of Arashi thrived on.

Jun split his concentration between giving last directions to Juniors and following a certain spiky haired idol’s movements backstage. The minutes tickled down to show time until everyone was in place, waiting for the final countdown. Staff members were trying to discreetly glance at Ohno, probably wondering if he would last through three hours of singing and running around.

Matsujun stood in front of Satoshi, both dressed in their white and electric green outfits, Jun’s mouth open to ask if Leader could really handle doing the concert, but was cut off by an irritated glare from the shorter man.

“Shut up. I’m fine. We’re going. That’s it.”

Unfazed, Jun insisted, “Irritation was another sign of a concussion.”

In a rare display of complete frustration, Ohno threw his hands up and spun around, refusing to speak to him. Nino scoffed in a soft voice, but still enough for them to hear, “Anyone would be annoyed if you asked the same question thirty times in under an hour.”

Jun was meditating.

The concert had finished without a hitch, minus Aiba popping out of the wrong stage door and Sho almost not arriving in time for his own solo. Through which, Jun had watched Leader like a hawk.

He didn’t make any mistakes and his dancing didn’t seem any slower.

The five members were now heading back to Tokyo in a nearly empty compartment on one of the last bullet trains for the night. Everyone but Jun was sleeping. He looked down the row at his friends. Nino was curled in a ball on the seat next to him, Nintendo DS still clutched in his hands. Sho’s head was hanging back on the headrest with a frown on his face, probably because Aiba was sprawled sideways on his lap. However, Matsujun couldn’t see Ohno since his boyfriend was lying across two seats in the row behind him.

Satoshi had avoided Jun during the concert when he could and then waited for Jun to choose his seat on the train before sitting somewhere out of eyesight. Leader was still annoyed at him. Until an hour ago, Ohno had been talking with Otaki about another drama audition his manager wanted him to try for, until his one word responses had turned into “Mm-hm”s and he’d finally went down for the count.

Jun let out a short sigh and stood up, deciding he was too worried to stay still any longer. He carefully snuck around to Ohno’s form, taking in his compact sleeping position and soft breathing. He knelt down, wanting to brush the stray bangs out of Satoshi’s relaxed face.

Hmm... What’s that?

There was a curious dark stain on the seat under Ohno’s head. Slowly reaching out to touch it, he was surprised that the area felt damp. Bringing his hand back, he inhaled sharply at the sight of red covering his fingers.

“Blood?” whispering quietly, his breathing quickened.

Jun couldn’t be sure where it came from because of the angle, so he shook Ohno lightly, hoping it was a prank. When his boyfriend didn’t stir, panic rose up instead.

“Satoshi?” Voice a bit louder this time, Jun shook the sleeping body again. Sho and Aiba jerked upright, turning around drowsily. “Satoshi!” Nino poked his head over the seat to look behind, confused as he took in the scene. “What’s wrong?” Aiba and Sho also came over to investigate.

Moving at last, Ohno’s face scrunched up in pain as he turned over, the other members could see the thin trickle of blood dripping from his ear. Nino frantically pushed himself further over the back of his seat to look closer. “Is that really blood? Is he okay?”

Jun looked around briefly for a handkerchief, but choose to use his jacket sleeve instead to wipe gently at the blood. “Satoshi?” Ohno groaned and jerked his head away from Jun’s touch, one eye cracking open.

“Oh-chan?” Aiba was hanging onto Sho’s arm for support again, even though both of them looked just as anxious.

Ohno lifted a hand to his head, eyes closed in a grimace. “I’m fine. You guys should go back to sleep.”

Jun really wished he could smack Satoshi right then.

Author’s Note:

I won’t even pretend that I understand medical procedures, but maybe I came close. In reality, the Doctor might not have let him preform. XD

As much as I like lovey-dovey Juntoshi, I also have fun writing when they get annoyed at each other. Particularly because I think a frustrated Ohno is quite adorable. Plus, it’s not something that happens easily since it’s against his nature.

Thank you to everyone for reading, and especially for the comments. They always spark my imagination. For those of you who didn’t already read it, satsuki_chan made a comment on Naruse (十二) about wishing Ohno had seen Jun crying, which got me to write a short second ending. It’s posted under the comments if anyone is curious. よろしくね。
