Will I ever have enough degrees for my father?

In case you do not know: I have a BS in Biology, a BA in Radio, Television, Film, and a MFA in Science and Natural History Filmmaking. My goal in life is to one day teach documentary film at a college level while also writing papers and making weird short films (MFAs are terminal degrees, you can get tenure with them at any university). Congrats on the job! It's tough when parents insist on their own plans for your life! I regret not standing up to my parents in college. I wanted to major in Philosophy but they wouldn't pay for something that useless. So life is short, go for what you truly want while you can because before you know it you might become too old/busy/poor/etc. to do it later...

Very well said.

Congrats on the increased cash flow, I hope the laser job isn't too unpleasant, and most of all, good luck getting the job you really want and ironing things out with your dad!

Thanks!

Yes, hopefully everything will work out. I'm just worried about the fact that he has yet to tell me these plans even over the phone. This means that this is all I'm going to be hearing while I'm home for Christmas...

At least he's not trying to get you into the military? I seem to remember that being a standard tactic....

:) Don't worry about it too much. You're going to find an awesome job, and then find ME an awesome job, and life will be great.

Incidentally, I should set you up with my sister. She's working on research related to biogas and other superfun poop-related things in Wisconsin. Her program is mentioned here...

That is a plus. Maybe he thinks 26 is too old to enlist. Although, he occasionally lets me know that government agencies do make films (the military and branches like the CIA and FBI), but I have yet to look into anything like that (and I worry a little that most of that work is contracted out to other production companies).

Now that Rebecca has a real steady job she hasn't been hearing the "You Should Go to Law School" speech, so maybe once I get one I will stop hearing the "You Should Get a PhD in Entomology" speech. I can dream, can't I?

Your sister's work sounds awesome! If she has a film budget I would totally help her out.
