Chapter Three Chapter Four:
The rest of the day passed rather uneventfully for KiBum. Well, not entirely. His class got a new student, surprising everyone. It hadn’t even been a month since RyeoWook joined them, then suddenly they were getting another classmate? The second they heard the news, the whole class set up an uproar, either wondering if the new guy was cute, or protested the need to add another to their numbers when the class was full already.
Amid the commotion, a young male walked into the class, standing still in front of the blackboard and regarding them all with black eyes. All conversation came to a halt as the class examined the new arrival.
“Annyeong, my name is Cho KyuHyun. I’ll be in your class starting today. I hope we become good friends,” He said politely with a slight bow of the head. “He’s cute,” the girl beside KiBum murmured, peering at him from over the head of the taller boy in front of him. RyeoWook, sitting a few seats away from KiBum, seemed in conflict with himself whether he should be happy he wasn’t ‘the new kid’ anymore.
“KyuHyun, you can take a seat next to KiBum. KiBum, raise your hand please.”
Raising his hand obediently, KiBum froze in place when a second student walked into the class. TWO new students on the same day? That was unheard of.
But it wasn’t a new student. It was DongHae, the boy who kissed him then talked with him in the library earlier. None of the students or the teacher paid attention to him, so he was able to slip into class unnoticed, going to sit on an empty desk a row behind KiBum. He perched himself on top of the desk, swinging his legs back and forth idly. KiBum watched him, wondering how he could get away with coming into a class that wasn’t even his and why the teacher wasn’t telling him off for sitting on the desk instead of the chair. DongHae noticed him watching, and waved.
“KiBum sshi?”
Jumping slightly, KiBum looked to his left and saw KyuHyun sitting in the seat beside him, an amused look on his face. Realizing his hand had still been up in the air long after KyuHyun had make his way over, KiBum lowered it quickly. From behind him, he heard DongHae’s soft laughter. KiBum glanced over his shoulder at the other, frowning a little.
If he hadn’t turned away, he would have noticed KyuHyun do the exact same thing.
“Okay, lets continue with the lesson, shall we? KyuHyun, you can follow with KiBum until you get your own books.”
Putting the thought of the strange boy in the back of the class out of his mind, KiBum turned and got his book out of his bag, opening it. KyuHyun pushed their desks together, and as the teacher started the lesson, he followed along quietly. KiBum was thankful when he didn’t try to talk to him during the lesson; most of the people in the class could care less, and were writing notes to each other, but unlike them, KiBum actually wanted to do well on the upcoming test.
Class passed by slowly. When break came, everyone started talking at once, cutting the teacher off mid-sentence. She sighed, closing the book and leaving the room.
“It’s nice to meet you, Kibum sshi,” KyuHyun said with a soft laugh. RyeoWook made his way over to them, weaving around the many desks, chairs, and students. “KiBum, do you know if we’re allowed to go to the other classes during break?” He asked nervously.
About to point out DongHae in the back of the class, since no one seemed to have noticed him yet though he was being rather obvious, he stopped. “Wait, why do you want to go to the other classes?”
“He probably wants to go see YeSung,” piped up a boy a few seats over, SungMin. Kibum knew him through YeSung, though he had never really talked to him before. “Right, Wookie?” Kibum turned to look at RyeoWook again, raising one eyebrow at the others red face.
“Y-yeah… I l-left something at hi-is house the other day… And he said he’d give it to me during break…”
KiBum shrugged. “I don’t see why not… It’s just not very common. Doesn’t mean it’s against the rules.”
“KiBummie practically eats the school textbooks, including the rulebook, so if he says it’s okay then it’s okay,” SungMin put in, grinning widely. KiBum absently wondered why the other was talking to them; he had never bothered in the past. And he had looked so gloomy this morning, why so happy all of a sudden?
“I resent that,” KiBum murmured, closing his book and placing it back in his bag. He looked back at DongHae, who gave him the peace sign.
“KiBum, what are you smiling at?” RyeoWook asked, looking where he was looking. “I’m smiling?” KiBum echoed, blinking as he looked back at the younger. He hadn’t noticed. “Well, I was-“
“I don’t really know my way around here yet…” KyuHyun cut in. “And apparently I have to drop this off at the principals office.” He waved a slip of paper around.
“I’ll go with you!” SungMin piped up, bouncing up and leaving the class. KyuHyun followed him. DongHae, watching them leave, blinked when KyuHyun looked in his general direction before vanishing.
“I’ll go find YeSung,” RyeoWook said softly, still somewhat red as he followed them out.
Kibum sighed as he was left alone, continuing to pack up. After a moment, he looked behind him at DongHae, but the other had vanished. KiBum frowned in confusion; he would have seen him walk out the door… Then shrugged, and pulled out papers to work on.

“LeeTeuk, wait up!” DongHae protested loudly as the spirit guide dragged him out of the room, giving him the shivers as they went through the wall. “What’s the hurry?”
“DongHae, you have to be more careful!” LeeTeuk scolded like a worried mother hen, turning to look at the confused ghost as he pulled him out of the school. “One, hanging around KiBum so much might clue him in that you’re a ghost! I mean, no one else saw you! What if he had tried talking to you? That would have been disastrous!”
“Relax! He didn’t talk to me, so we’re fine. Besides, I think KyuHyun saw me too.” DongHae crashed into LeeTeuk when he suddenly stopped, then started protesting again, rubbing his sore nose.
“KyuHyun?” LeeTeuk looked back at him, a strange expression on his face. “What was his last name?”
“Eh… Cho, I think…”
LeeTeuk frowned. “Oh dear… So one of them is here too…” He murmured, confusing DongHae even more. “One of who?”
“…” LeeTeuk looked at DongHae worriedly. “Well… While being able to see and make contact with ghosts completely like Kibum can is almost unheard of, sensing them and being able to hear them a little isn’t. A few families in the world are able to make contact with ghosts. Most are fortune tellers, spiritualists, the like. The Cho family is one of those who can sense ghosts.”
“Ah… So, KyuHyun is a fortune teller? Why is that worrying?” DongHae frowned.
“He’s not a fortune teller, DongHae. The Cho family… Are ghost hunters.”

Ring. Ring. Ring.
A mess-full of brown hair looked up from his position on the bed, curled up in almost a fetal position next to the wall. He didn’t answer the phone, just letting it ring. Finally, it went to the answering machine. The boy sighed softly, closing his eyes and listening to the message.
“Hyukkie, it’s me. SungMin. When are you coming back to school? The teacher understands, but you still can’t stay away for too long. Listen, I’m coming over after school, okay? We’ve got to talk about the… The eulogy DongHae’s mother asked you to give.”
EunHyuk bit his lower lip slightly, fighting to keep more tears from falling. He failed, and the pillow clutched tightly in his hands was dampened further.
“Anyways… I’ll talk to you later tonight. Bye.”
There was a faint beep, and the machine went silent.
For a long time, there was nothing but silence. EunHyuk looked around the room. Dull eyes finally landed on a picture right beside his bed, framed in a plain brown wood. He shakily reached over and picked it up, using two hands in case he dropped it. Bringing it close to his body, he stared at the two happy, laughing faces caught forever by the camera. His fingers smoothed over the glass separating them from the face of young DongHae, grinning goofily with one hand up in a peace sign, the other slung around younger EunHyuk’s shoulders.
Trembling fingers sought the clip holding the frame together. Pulling it off, the frame fell apart in his hands, the picture slipping out and onto the beds mattress. Wetting dry lips a little, EunHyuk lifted the picture to eye level, abandoning the wooden frame. Tracing the others males face with one delicate finger, he drew in a deep, shuddering breath, then flipped the picture over to view the back. Words he had written long ago, then hidden from DongHae, were displayed across the white back, like fresh scars to the heart. His lower lip trembled slightly, more tears leaking out and blurring his vision. But he didn’t even need to look to know what he had written there.
EunHae forever <3
