[The video simply shows a man in a vest and button down shirt sitting in a chair with a book in his hands. The man is flipping through the pages quickly. This goes on for a second or so until the edges of the page he's flipping catches fire. There is a scramble of movement as the man, revealed to be Spencer Reid during his struggle to extinguish ( Read more... )

[Hanna just quietly observes. He knew something was up with the books, with big chunks of pages missing...but he hadn't actually see this happen yet.]

...why are the books just destroying themselves...

Are you okay?

I'm fine. I didn't burn myself. I'm more worried about the books. I hadn't finished reading all of them and they're just...destroying themselves before I get the chance. I don't understand it. The books aren't that old and I've taken care not to be around anything flammable while reading.

[He sounds very mournful about the loss of books rather than worried about his own safety]

I'm sorry about the books. I really am, but they've been doing this all over the City lately...

What were you trying to read about, if I may ask?

Magic. We don't have it in my world, at least not like this. I've been reading how it works and what's out there.

Of all the things that have been going on lately, I think this is the worst.

I agree. I've been trying to read as many of them as possible with the intention of possibly reproducing the information later. I haven't gotten nearly far enough.

Reproducing the information? That's quite the undertaking.

Not all of it naturally. Just what I've read. I've got an eidetic memory so in theory I should be able to do it as long as I've read the book.

Are you okay? Do you have any big sheets to smoother the fire?

[He looks up at the video more than a bit rumpled and holds up the wool cardigan he was wearing over his button down and vest earlier. It's singed and a little smoky. There might be a hole burned in the left bottom pocket.]

I've just been using this. I'm fine but I'm afraid most of the books are ruined.

I'm sorry. There's no way to get them back?

Not as far as I know. I'll try to make new copies from memory but they still won't be the same.

Woah! Fire? What's going on?

Books are burning. Just spontaneously combusting and there's not much I can do to save them.

D'you think that water would help?

Perhaps. I'm afraid it would be almost as destructive to the pages as the fire would be.
