Doesn't anyone crochet kippot anymore?

kombu went searching for kippah patterns and found out that there is basically ONE woman who does this stuff, wrote a book on it, runs a Yahoo! group, and put the instructions online.

Am I wrong, or were girls at Brookline High doing this all the freakin' time during classes?? I always assumed they learned it at youth group retreats or in Israel or ( Read more... )

This, while cool, does not help my case. That flickr person is The Woman who does tapestry crochet. She wrote the book and everything.
Here are some videos showing her other stuff, too.

Cool that she has a flickr account with her stuff, though.

I don't know about making them but I come across them at fleamarkets and yardsales, I usually pick them up for 50 cents or so and sell them on ebay for 5 bucks or so. 20 a year must pass through my hands.

It was normal for girls in Orthodox congregations in CO to do this thatpoetrykid October 10 2007, 15:28:42 UTC
when I knew those girls, four years ago.

maybe everyone who does it learns from another person rosalux October 10 2007, 16:51:14 UTC
So there are no instructions on the internet?

All of those girls you saw making these may have learned from each other, except for the ones who learned from Grandma.

when i put "crochet kippah" into google in amongst the many sites selling really pretty ones were a few with patterns. at least they look like patterns to me if i actually knew how to decipher such a thing. (i'm not so good at following directions but tend to make up my own patterns. and that's with knitting rather than crocheting which i can't seem to figure out at all.) you probably found these sites but that they are not of help for your projected project. it does seem funny that you can find a million patterns on line for socks but so few for kippah which seem like they'd be an easier and more fun project.

i've got to get started on wool pants for v2 and hats and mittens for v1.

Which reminds me...can we borrow your super-cool wool pants that you made for v2 last year? I'm trying to figure out how nighttime breathable diapering is going to happen in the winter...
and i need to bring you back your fitteds. they're in a nice bag just waiting to be remembered the next potluck. we'll see how i do at that.

i don't think the pants i made for v2 would fit your boy. he actually isn't the skinniest thing ever. remember she wore them when she was a year old and wearing 12 month clothing. hey at almost 2 years she is about average 24 month clothing sized. v1 was wearing that stuff at 15 months. so fun how they come in all shapes and sizes.
if miss seaweed is going to join in on mom time tomorrow (thursday already!) she could bring the dipes. just today i was toying with the idea of putting the diapers in the basement and just keeping the wipes in use. little miss rashy ass can't handle cloth at night and since that's pretty much the only time we are using diapers these days i don't feel too bad with disposables.
