Let's say the reason Superman is avoiding Superboy is that he took one look at the kid and all his Kryptonian instincts started screaming "oh my god it is a member of our species for the first time ever WE MUST RUT FURIOUSLY". Being the stand-up guy he is, Clark is not okay with ravishing a sixteen year/four month-old version of himself, and the situation is not helped by the fact he's never actually been attracted to anyone on a biological level before. He decides metaphorically covering his ears, squeezing his eyes shut, and singing "LA LA LA" at the top of his lungs is his only option here, and it kind of works except when the kid goes and gets in the middle of his rescues looking all sexyfine in black and his symbol dammit. But otherwise, no, it totally works.

Until Clark runs into some red Kryptonite. You know, that stuff from Smallville? That totally fucked his inhibitions, and made him act like a superdick? A superdick who really wanted to get laid ( ... )

“It may not have occurred to you yet, but odds are he’ll share your problem with humans,” Bruce pointed out. “And you’re right: I don’t like it. But Superboy has been quite clear; societal norms mean jack-shit to him. You interacting with him means the world. The situation is not normal, the circumstances are not normal, he's probably never going to accept normal. Either have some form of a relationship with him or explain to him, plainly and in person, why you won’t look at him. You are not allowed to leave him to draw his own conclusions about why you avoid him, not anymore.”

Batman is awesome. Hopefully Clark will listen to him, and Superboy will get at least something of a relationship with the man.

Excellent job overall. :)

Not totally happy with the ending. But I feel like I've written myself into a corner where the only way to keep either of them with a chance to stay sane is to let them be together. Clark needs SB to be healthy/happy to get over self-loathing. SB won't be happy without Clark accepting him in some fashion. And given that SB is in pretty much the boat as Clark with regards to appropriate people to have a relationship with...

So Batman's restrictions are my salve to my conscious. Superboy isn't an exception to the rule that makes a mentor 'ship problematic: he doesn't have the ability to assert his desires in the relationship. So third-party intervention to protect him until he's more capable of acting as an equal.

. . . okay, I have stared at the fic and reread it . . . possibly, um, three to four times now, and I totally lack the proper way to review it, try though I might. SO I WILL TRY ANYWAY?

But first: OH AUTHORANON, I LOVE YOU SO. *fluttery!* Also I am kind of jealous of how fast you scribbled this out, seriously, that was like THAT.

I love Clark waking up all sexytimes slow and then going "ARGH" (although Clark you BASTARD, did you REALLY have to throw the poor boy into a wall? >>;;), I love Superboy's reactions, I love Batman's RULES, and I was actually really surprised by the way the fill turned out, although it makes total sense that it DID go this way--today in the middle of work I actually stopped and went "wait, wouldn't Superboy have the 'humans feel weird' problem TOO? so how exactly is this going to end up for him in the long run now that he's had 'right'?" And you ADDRESSED THAT instead of just using it as a cheap excuse to get Clark's pants off and I adore that. <3 ( ... )

Thanks, really glad you enjoyed it!

But speed is an illusion. I hate leaving stories half finished, so I don't actually post until I'm far enough along that I know I won't get stuck. So the time between posting the first and last part only relates to how long it takes me to get things typed up.

Yeeees, this hit so many of my dirtybadwrong buttons. SB just wanting Superman to LOOK AT HIM and pay attention to him and like him and think he's good enough, and so going along with whatever Clark wants without understanding any of it. And Clark not being able to be attracted to anyone else and not wanting to do the wrong thing, but still needing it. And wanting to mark Superboy with his S-shield. And SB of course blaming himself even more when Clark flips out. Oh angsty dub-con indeed but also their only shot at happiness. :/

And that's why I find the pairing fascinating for this show when it was never interesting in the comics. It's just how Superboy WANTS Superman so much and Superman keeps running away and Superboy doesn't understand anything. Waaahhhh.

So yes, this was great and all sad and hot and wonderful. :)

And looking back at it and augh, the way that Superboy is still all timid and tentative while everything sexual is happening, because right now he's happy and Superman seems happy but he's still so afraid of doing it wrong, and then Clark throws him into a wall! And throws up! And won't look at him again! And my heart breaks because Superboy DOESN'T UNDERSTAND what any of this means and because of that it's not right at all for them to be together, but if Clark goes back to avoiding him after this or even acts THE SLIGHTEST BIT AWKWARD AND UNCOMFORTABLE AROUND HIM EVER then Superboy will BLAME HIMSELF EVEN MORE NO MATTER WHAT ANYONE SAYS and wahhhhh.

It is like little pieces of glass stabbing and hurting my heart and also making me feel all tingly in the naughty bits.

;_; This was so nice. Like, notwithstanding the terrible sad thoughts of "OH NO I JUST RAPED A CHILD", it really dug its nails into the issue of it, and Clark's thoughts, and how incredibly confused Superboy was...
Oh D: He just thought it was affection.
