Not A Sidekick anonymous July 22 2011, 05:46:33 UTC
There was a prompt last part where Robin was a secret league member. I really want a fic based off that, because no matter what Red Arrow may claim, Robin was never a sidekick. Because you know he had to have known about the Watchtower, you know he probably knows every single league member personally, and Batman would not just have measly sidekick, he'd have a kickass partner.

A fic representing this, please.

Bonus: he was given the "tour" to appease the sidekicks.
Double Bonus: He was placed on YJ to keep an eye on their training (He's the secret mentor.)

Night-Watch"The word on the street is that they're getting ready for something big. Picking kids off the street, the sudden 'flux of new guys from Cali. At least, that's what the girls down in Red District are saying." His radio is on in his ear, and he can hear the rustling of paper and the trusty rumbling-hum of the Batcomputer in the background. The batspeak chittering in an echo-y sort of fashion serves to just heighten the familiarity and make him feel even more at home ( ... )

Across from him the building is suspiciously silent, lights flicker in that abandoned warehouse sort of fashion, but he can clearly discern movement from the shadows. Their clothing is too deliberately dark for them to blend in to a practiced eye like him. They're not amateurs, but their style (a bit of movie-sourced information on acting in dark cities of dubious police protection) reeks of living it up in the daylight ( ... )

WriterAnon: I don't even know where this part came from other than a need to show the aftermath rather than the 'math.

The Gotham City Police arrived to a scene that was completely tame.

And this, of course, astounded those who were not experienced with the kind of cape-wearing vigilantes who roamed the rooftops of the city. Meaning, none of them.

The call came in with the typical automated voice, blurred to the point of androgyny, but utterly recognizable in another way.

"There is something you should see at---...the old textile warehouse at the East End.And of course, when they arrived, the typical C-class crook apprehension display (familiar in all cities with crooks of the lower-threat levels and heroes in spandex to fight them) greeted them ( ... )

"Fess up," she said, growling in the way that most cops learned before they could even be allowed to take baby-steps into Gotham City proper. His lower lip trembled, and she could tell that she was not playing with the usual class of criminal. Vivian stepped back a couple of steps, a smile growing on her face. "I can't believe this. I get to play good cop." He didn't seem to have heard her, so she took advantage of his inattention to step into his field of vision again ( ... )

"If it's any consolation," she said, pressing the button to allow her voice to carry through a speaker in the back, "The Bat likes to beat a bit more into you guys. Birdy likes playing with your head more." She took her finger off the button just as he was about shout something loudly back, and let out a sigh ( ... )

Firstly: YOU UPDATED *starts flailing*

Secondly: lived it! I live how you not only worked in the dynamic between B and R but also showed the cops view on the matter. I love how Vivian defended Robin and the thugs freaking out about Robin. I really really live the whole thing about how Gothamites don't take well to outsiders cuz it's so true!

Anyway, update as a whole=awesomesauce;)

Should I call you TopAnon? (This naming scheme is getting tricky).

I'm glad you loved it. I went through like 3 incarnations of what this chapter should be, completely different directions by the way since it was supposed to be a post op cave scene originally, and then the Officer Vivian scene popped out because I didn't feel right without introducing some other views of Gotham and the duo...

And Robin's laugh is potential Nightmare Fuel, yes? That laugh of his...my headcanon, supported by this anon meme, is that it's the fault of overexposure to Joker's gas. But, again supported by this anon meme, I bet he has a great singing voice...

TOPAnon, it works ;) anonymous August 27 2011, 20:04:15 UTC
His laugh is uber creepy but it is love! It's stuff like that that really makes and builds up a character to awesomeness. And I'm happy you included the officer Vivian scene. Any chance for more soon, y/y? ;) course, I'll wait for this fix becuz anon, you are awesome.

A few days ago, in some little Midwestern town, a mystic-minded sort of man called upon magic to grant him power over the moon. Or, that was how he interpreted the runes that suddenly, and magically, decided to translate themselves for him ( ... )

"We've got some heist down by Jewel Corner." Batman nodded, acknowledging that he was registering the news. In his sights were out-of-place lights, too bright for an area that had called for a temporary shut-down to deal with possible flooding. "Looks like Penguin's guys from the security cams. Top hats, big birds--the works." Robin looked up, biting his lip. "Something's off though. Didn't we deal with him last week?" He gestured down to the city with his free hand. "His usual MO is to give up for at least a bit longer before jumping into another party ( ... )
